8 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2017 | We had a great May meeting! Our guest speaker was Randall Harris from Living Free Animal Sanctuary in Idyllwild. Everyone was so impressed with all they are doing that we plan on making a trip up to his facility this summer. I will be sending out an email to the group to see who would like to go. I'm sure will have a few car loads! It's been a busy few weeks with finding lost pets in the community. I want to remind everyone when you see a lost pet please call the main gate. They will call someone from the group to go out and get them back home. Please make sure to give the location where they're spotted. If they come to you that would be great. But always call the main gate and report it. Also, if your pet is not chipped, please put a tag on him/her with name and phone number! We have found a few pets with no IDs and this makes it hard for us to reunite them with the owners. It would make it so much easier and they will get home to you faster!! We found a forever home for our little one eye shitzu! This always makes us happy. We have Coco our litter terrier up for adoption, she is posted on channel 97. Check her out she's a doll! We would love to find a forever home for her too! As you know we have a lot of wildlife in Sun Lakes. Just a reminder to all, if you find baby bobcats on your porch or in your yard, please do not feed them! Mommy is somewhere close watching her babies! July is our dark month so no meeting in July. Our next meeting will be Sept. 18 at 10 am in the Multi Purpose Room. So mark your calendars! I will be working on our guest speaker this summer. If you have anyone you're interested in give me a call. I'm always open to new ideas. Remember as summer approaches with all the wildlife and heat keep those fur babies safe! EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE The city of Banning's Water Department still has the same watering restrictions in place. The following watering schedule is for all residents living in the city of Banning: • Residents with even-numbered street addresses shall water only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday • Residents with odd-numbered street addresses shall water only on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday • Water only from sundown to sunrise. Begin watering an hour or so before sunrise ensures that the water soaks into the soil rather than evaporating Helpful tips: Focus on the root zone. Remember that it's the roots that need access to water, not the leaves. Wetting the foliage can promote the spread of diseases and mold. Water deeply and thoroughly. Lawns and annuals concentrate their roots in the top 6" of soil; for perennials, shrubs and trees, it's the top 12". Push a spade or a long screwdriver into the soil near your plant and pull it back to see how the soil looks. If it feels moist to a depth of 6 to 12 inches, you're in good shape. If it's bone dry, water! Check your sprinkler system frequently and adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street. We hope you find these tips helpful. ~ Mark Schleiden, Director of Operations Garden Watering Tips
