Mark Burchfield SLCC Superintendent of Golf reports the following: The rain has helped leach our soils and moisture while getting deeper into our tight soils. This should help us as we go into the hot days of summer. This year's aerification was a success but still the healing process took longer than we would have liked. During the period of when we punched, our night-time temperatures dropped significantly. We even had a couple days of frost in April. We did all of the right things to promote a rapid healing but Mother Nature has slowed the process. Over the past few weeks we have been working on a presentation to the Master Board for extending and connecting the cart paths. This would be the time to do this in conjunction with the Turf Reduction and a new Irrigation System. The extended paths would help reduce compaction to our fairways and the areas where we enter and exit the green and tee complexes. The paths would be a big help in managing the cart traffic much better. One other aspect of the cart path extension would be a potential for have golf available after times of heavy rain, by allowing carts out as "Cart Path Only" for those who still want to play. For some of you who are keeping tabs on the Lake Renovation on the Executive Course; the work is now moving on better since the rains have subsided. Hole #15 is full of water and holes 13 and 14 are under construction with a projected water fill date of May 7. The Championship Course Hole #9 lake, is scheduled to begin following the Charity Week Pro- Am. The Men's Club has two tournaments scheduled during the Month of June. Member- Member (scramble/best ball) on June 7 and 10 with an 8 am shotgun. Our President's Cup Tournament 1st round will be Wed., June 28 (shot-gun start). We need to count our blessings that we live in a great community with wonderful facilities that are available to us all year.
