58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2016 | Our second World Cup Team tennis event had another great turn out. Wow, all of the tennis courts were used and everyone had a great time. Plenty of pizza, salad and desserts were enjoyed by all. Another big thank you to all of our captains and players that participated in this event. I have received great feedback from players. Just want to keep encouraging our new players to keep coming out and enjoying this amazing sport. Our tennis club had an exciting weekend from April 27 through April 30 of terrific competitive mixed doubles tennis. This year we had the best participation ever, 11 teams. The finals were held on Sun., April 20 with Pat and Michelle Carter being our 2017 champions. Second place went to Bob Walter and Anita Chatigny. Our consolation winners were David Nethercott and Mary Wilkie. Congratulations to all our winners. A special thank you goes out to all the participants and great fans. We had a wonderful brunch after the finals and enjoyed sipping on champagne. Upcoming events: June 3: Saturday Mixer (open to all levels of play) 8 am June 14: World Cup Team Tennis/ BBQ 5 pm July 1: NO SATURDAY MIXER DUE TO 4TH OF JULY July 16: Breakfast at Wimbledon (SCH) 6 am July 19: World Team Cup Finals – Potluck 5 pm We now have envelopes at the South Clubhouse for you to fill out for each of our events that require money. This should make it a little easier for everyone, including our treasurer or the person chairing any event. "DISCIPLINE is the bridge between your tennis goals and tennis success!" See you on the courts, be safe and have fun! Tennis Summer is just around the corner and a perfect time for a game of POP tennis. POP Tennis continues active and growing at SLCC. We welcome anyone interested in the game to join us. Scheduled days of play are Tues./Thurs./Fri. from 8 to 10 am. On Sunday, the courts are open to everyone, but many POP Tennis players show up to play on Sunday at 8 am. The Master Board recently decided there will no "court conversion" at the North side from tennis to POP tennis courts, so good news is we will remain playing at the Main Clubhouse courts. In addition, court resurfacing will now be scheduled so watch for the NEW BLUE courts! Everyday we are welcoming new people to our sport, so a good time to remind everyone regarding courtesy rules of good POP tennis etiquette and sportsmanship: • All levels of players are welcome: everyone was new at one time. • Make new players feel welcome — introduce yourself! • Offer to play with new players to assist in their learning process. • Always invite new players to return again. • Reminder to not enter a court while play is in process. • When playing with players of different levels — remember it's all about good sportsmanship and having fun and not always about the SLAM/SMASH or WIN. Stop by also and check out our bulletin board that is updated monthly. If you have any questions about POP, please call Jeannie McGuire at 845-8817 or come visit the courts outside the Main Clubhouse.
