26 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2017 By Steven Day, Resident; Chairman, Solera Diamond Valley Neighborhood Watch April 29 was a great day for those who attended the annual Neighborhood Watch Block Parties. I was able to visit several of the events and was impressed by the turnout and the enthusiasm that our residents seem to have for the idea of block parties. We have Lorraine Brealey to thank for generating this event last year and it looks like we will schedule AT LEAST one block party every year. Of course, it doesn't take much to get our residents to come to a gathering where food, fun and fellowship abound, but there were some absences. Those who attended the parties know how meaningful they were for simply getting to know their neighbors who also become friends. If we all talk about the great time we had, just maybe those who were absent will be motivated to show up next time. We had a special treat when three of Hemet PD's finest officers made an appearance. Lt. Dickson, Detective Baily and even the Chief of Police, Brown, took time from their schedules to greet and meet with our residents. They were most willing to answer questions and assure their audience that their knowledge of current issues was on track with our "Islanders." The officers gave updates on contemporary challenges and on the benefits of Measure U to the police department and thus to Hemet residents. Thanks to all the Captains, Co-Captains and other folks that made their homes, patios and garages available and helped prepare the outstanding food and drink that everyone enjoyed. Neighborhood Watch Block Parties By Steve Day, Resident and Neighborhood Watch Chairman Finally, a meeting that residents of the "island" have been waiting for! On Thursday, June 8 at 2 pm in the Lodge Ballroom, Solera Diamond Valley residents will be able to listen and respond to the post office on a variety of issues ranging from the mishandling of mail to mail theft to forgery. You won't want to miss out on this opportunity to hear from the experts at USPS on how our mail is handled. We will have Cherrie Warren, Supervisor of Customer Service, Hemet Post Office and Christine Reins-Jarin, Postal Inspector, Mail Theft Prevention Team, appearing at our meeting. They will be our featured speakers but we will update everyone on other contemporary issues within the "island." Please plan to attend as our problems affect us all.
