Just For Laughs has something for everyone to really enjoy; things to make you smile, things to produce a belly laugh, things to make you happy! Everyone wants to come away with a feeling of contentment and Just For Laughs will deliver. Watch for the notice for the sale of show tickets. You do not want to miss this show — it's new and different! Sun Lakes Follies Please mark your calendar to join us and learn more about a wonderful group of theater lovers. We have multiple opportunities for you to share your talent or learn a new one! Our That's Entertainment committee has been hard at work and now has a theme for our 2018 production. It will be, "Adventures Through Time." Everyone is encouraged to put their thinking cap on and select a skit, song to sing or monologue to fit a particular period of time. An item to note – if you perform a song it must not be one that has been sung at a performance in the last five years during a Sun Lakes talent show. We want to keep the production fresh. Your idea must be turned in by September so our writers can create the script for the overall show. From there, you will have until the start of rehearsal (Jan. 2) to hone your entry. If you are interested in dancing, Susan Fitzpatrick, needs to speak with you ASAP. She will spend the next few months creating routines and with practice time very limited on the stage, it's important that she knows of your interests. Mystery Theater & More Thank you to all who came out to support the Reader's Theater presentation of A Twilight Zone. We are pleased that the additional coffee and cookies event is becoming more popular (in addition to the ever popular wine and cheese event). Our next Reader's Theatre offering will be It Happened One Night, directed by Martie Steggell, in November. Auditions for our fall production of Annette Tringham's Chatterton Country Club will be July 18 and 19 at 9 am in the Bus Room. Previously performed in 2010, Annette has updated it with two brand new pieces that complete the story of this zany cast of characters who may or may not look familiar to you. All Sun Lakers are invited to audition. There are five separate vignettes so you will not have to memorize as much as you would have to with a full-length play. Come play with us — especially you male types who have been holding back from joining in the fun. The 13th Annual Violin and Piano Concert is Sun., Aug. 6, at 2 pm. This extremely popular event once again brings back Maki Ishii Sowash on violin. Maki, a violinist with the San Francisco Opera (and the daughter-in-law of Lorene Sowash, a Sun Lakes resident) will perform with Motoko Marita, Emiko Nakamura and Kaoru Hagishima. It is an annual tradition that they spend part of their trip from Japan to perform for us. Tickets will be on sale in the Main Clubhouse lobby July 24 through Aug. 4 from 10 am to 3 pm. The $15 price will include refreshments at a reception immediately following the concert in the Ballroom. Limited musician sponsorships are available with a minimum $25 donation. You will be invited to a special cocktail reception the night before and preferred front row seating. To be one of our musician angels, please call Lorene Sowash at 769-9999 to discuss. Our monthly meetings are on the stage side of the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 1 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Yearly dues are $13 for an individual and $20 for a couple.
