52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2017 | At our May Board meeting we discussed the second Wednesday shotguns. They have been well received and we will continue the event. It was decided that we will have hot dogs and beer again after the July second Wednesday. You will be getting more information on this as it gets closer. Upcoming tournaments: The first tournament will be the Sun Lakes C.C. Open, (4- Man 2 Best Ball) played on Sat., July 22. On Wed., July 26, we will have the President's Cup Finals. Additional information will be published at a later date. News From The Director of Golf, Al Vallecorsa and Superintendent, Mark Burchfield: New pump stations were installed on both courses and working well. Landscape and irrigation consultants have been retained for more turf reduction and flow management. Also, a hydrology engineer was retained. We have met with city officials from Banning and Beaumont, as well as our engineer regarding hole #16 Championship course drainage. Beaumont is getting close to starting work on their side of the street. Once the work is completed, we will look at addressing #16, 15, and 14 drainage. Based on cost we would like to run a pipe (with engineer input) in front of #14 and take out the bridge. Not only could this minimize down time in the rainy season, but also help with safety from balls bouncing off the bridge. We will be starting what we are calling "Phase 1" in November. This will be more turf reduction on holes #9 and #10, and reline the lake on #9, taking the material from the lake and using it to extend the SE practice range which will increase our depth, connect the cart paths, and redo the main and lateral lines for irrigation to include the practice range. Estimated down time is three months (Nov. - Jan.). We are hopeful we can continue into "Phase 2" in early 2018 which would be holes 14,15,16. In 2018 we hope to give the main golf shop a small face lift… cabinets, fixtures and recessed lighting as the budget allows. Men's Golf
