58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2016 | Boy, can you believe we have already gone through half of the year? Time sure flies when you're having fun and playing tennis! Our third World Cup Team tennis event was a cold one. However, we had some die-hards that still came out and played! Tacos, beans and rice and mainly tequila were enjoyed by all. We even had portable heaters to ward off some of the chill. It's great to see our new players participating in this event! We had our quarterly meeting on and voted on our Sun Lakes Tennis Championship Rules. They are posted on all the bulletin boards. We are looking forward to the re-surfacing of our courts which should be sometime in July. The colors chosen are the purple inner court with the dark green outer court. The fences will be painted along with us getting new screens. We will be all brand new! Good news, if you have not heard, there will be no court conversion. All tennis courts will remain the same. Upcoming events: July 1: No Saturday Mixer Due to 4th Of July July 16: Breakfast at Wimbledon (TBA), 6 am July 19: World Team Cup Finals – Potluck, 5pm Aug. 5: Tennis Mixer, 8 am Aug. 16: Hot August Nights/Member- Guest Tournament – Wine and Cheese Mixer, 6 pm. We have envelopes at the South Clubhouse for you to fill out for each of our events that require money. This should make it a little easier for everyone. See you on the courts, be safe and have fun! Tennis Summer is HERE and a perfect time for POP Tennis. We welcome anyone interested in the game to join us. Scheduled days of play are Tues./Thurs./Fri. from 8 to 10 am. On Sunday, the courts are open to everyone, but many POP Tennis players show up to play on Sunday at 8 am. During the summer heat (which is just around the corner) we may start play "unofficially" at 7 am if courts are available. In addition, we may try for a few evenings when it is cooler — again depending upon court availability. Watch your email for updates and announcements. Our courts at the Main Clubhouse are due to be refurbished late summer and will be a NEW color — stay tuned. Everyone is looking forward to the new cooler color and overall improvement and look.
