On May 13, the mighty SDV Pickleball men came
out to battle for the title of winner of the attractive
aqua blue SDV Pickleball club trophy. The 16 men
were divided into two groups, an A and B, to allow
for a playoff match at the end to determine the
champion. They each rotated through seven matches
with different partners (round robin format). The A
group had a tie in points for second highest score
between Greg Krebs and Irving Waldo. To break the
tie, the officials looked at number of wins. Irving
had one more win than Greg, so he went on to the
finals for A group along with highest A scorer Bob
Porter. Paul Bradstreet and Larry McGary were the
two highest scores from B group.
After three nail biting matches, the champion was
Irving Waldo. Bob Porter came in second, Larry
McGary was third and Paul Bradstreet was fourth.
The SDV women's pickleball tournament was held
on June 10, under cool and cloudy skies.
The 11 participants encompassed all levels of
pickleball experience, from seasoned players to the
novices.
They rotated through a series of eight matches as
an enthusiastic audience cheered them on.
The sun managed to come out just as the trophy
was awarded to Libby Linton, this year's female
champion. Kay Grasso was a close runner-up who
managed to finish just a point below Libby, even
after executing a launch of her paddle over the fence
and out of the court in one of her matches! Cindi
Buck won third place.
A good time was had by all!
Thanks to the Tournament committee for making
both tournaments enjoyable, trouble free and
delicious (donuts provided)! The committee was
headed up by Mabel Durand and included Linda
Gordon, Greg Krebs, Libby Linton, Larry McGary,
Sue Rossi and Irving Waldo.
