Jeff Davidson and Jerry Thompson, the designer and creator of the ESC Patron Board By Cindy Graves Once upon a time in 2009 the spirit of volunteerism was alive and well in the Four Seasons community. It all started with a beautiful and incredibly classy resident named Helen Shoemate, whose love for entertainment and the arts compelled her to inquire how she personally could initiate a fundraising campaign for the purpose of creating a venue that would enable residents to experience the highest quality entertainment experience possible in the Lodge Ballroom. She approached the Activities Director (me), Roland Harrah (the community technical guru) and Board Director, Loren DuChesne with the idea of creating an HOA committee which would accomplish those goals through donations from like-minded residents. Helen then provided the generous endowment to begin the project fund. A team was developed under the leadership of Roland Harrah, including various community volunteers with a wide range of expertise. In July of 2009, there was BOD approval to start a new committee called the Events System Committee. Its sole purpose was to do the research, physical labor and fundraising to put together the optimum Ballroom sound, stage and lighting system possible at that time. This objective was accomplished through both the hard work of ESC and generous community donations which equaled more than $50,000 (apart from HOA funds). The Premier Patrons Board was a major source of endowment to the Ballroom project. Platinum Patrons contributed $3,000 or more, Gold Patrons contributed $1,000 to $2,999, Silver Patrons contributed $500 to $999 and Bronze Patrons contributed $300 to $499. Numerous other resident donations were given through innovative fundraising events such the Spring Garden Tours, The Summer Outdoor Living Tours, the Holiday Home Tours, Special Event Concerts, and the Amphitheater Concert "donation locations." I wish that I could take the time to go into all of the amazing stories of how everything came together. There were so many special people that put their all (including massive amounts of hours — their personal labors of love) into building the foundation for quality entertainment here at Four Seasons. Below are the original members who volunteered to serve on the Events System Committee (affectionately referred to as the "Techies"): Roland Harrah, Chairman, Jeff Davidson, Treasurer, Teri DiMarino-Davidson, Fundraising, Loren DuChesne, HOA BOD Liaison, Willis Fagan, Steve Sarchett, Howard Swidler and Colin Taylor. The Event Systems Committee was renamed the Ad Hoc Technical Committee in 2014. Then this last year, the group of dedicated folks helping run all of the stage, lighting and sound needs of the community became known as the "Techies Group" and was placed under the newly formed Lodge Committee. The metamorphosis gets complicated, but the dedication of the current members to serve the community isn't complicated at all… there are approximately 16 volunteer "Techies" who have been working under the current leadership of Larry Goodreau and we're grateful to them all! Next time you are in the Lodge standing around in the Lobby, wander over to the wall outside of the Ballroom and take a look at our new and improved ESC Premier Patron Memorial. This is an incredibly sentimental piece of Four Seasons history, preserving the names and loved ones who "put their money where their mouth was" investing in this community well above the call of duty. Thank you Four Seasons community pioneers! The Event Systems Committee: Built With Love & Dedication Thanh and Roland Harrah Helen Shoemate and George Gurley 12 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2017
