This is going to be an abbreviated August activities report filled with our hopes and anticipations, not really what is absolutely going to happen, since we remain on "flex-check" with the Ballroom… the Ballroom update will be at the end of this article. Game time… First off, Gail Lindeboom has been planning a really fun game for all of us called "Majority Rules." If you have had the pleasure of attending any of her other group games, you'll know they are always full of hilarious laughter along with some good brain racking. This "Gail -game" is planned for Friday, Aug. 11 in the Ballroom at 6 pm; as usual, you are welcome to purchase your dinners at the Bistro and bring them in the Ballroom along with your favorite beverage (BYOB) from home. Should the Ballroom be unavailable due to construction, we'll just move it into the RCN Lobby. State of the City… The Beaumont State of the City will be presented in the Ballroom for Aug. 24. Many residents look forward to hearing what the Mayor and other city officials have to say, so if you are interested in attending, be sure to call the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce to get all of the details and to purchase tickets. This is not an Association event, but the BOD has been generous to sponsor the facility use for the city. Art Fair/Show… The Art Fair/Show will take place (cross fingers) on Friday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 8:30 pm. This event showcases our various art and photo classes. You'll be absolutely astounded at the levels of artistic professionalism and creativity. I'll also have live music and yummy appetizers to make the experience complete. Everyone is welcome and there is no fee for admittance. Start thinking about garage sales… We have two garage sales a year and Saturday, Oct. 14 is our last one . Sign-ups for having your own garage sale at your house, will start at the Lodge on September 5th. Be thinking of how you might be able to simplify your life by down-sizing some of your clutter items. The sign-up fee is still only $7, which is a terrific deal for a little extra peace in your life (Not to mention less dusting and arranging). Don't forget that we always have tons of outsiders driving into the neighborhood to buy all of your goodies and that makes for a little extra holiday money to tuck away. Ok, time for the Ballroom update… As of this writing, the plan is to start putting the giant steel beam and new support posts into the Ballroom ceiling starting the first week of August (again, fingers crossed). Then, hopefully, during the second week of August we can start installing some of the wiring for the new Ballroom sound and lighting upgrades, recently approved by the Finance Committee. After that will come the new carpets and the new wood flooring (check out the inset photo to get an idea). It was determined that the new wood flooring will extend into the first and third sections of the Ballroom as well as the current second section, to not only accommodate the ever growing dance clubs, but also to enable multiple classes at the same time. As I've said a million times before, it will be a wonderful thing for everyone when all of the upgrades are complete. A big thank you goes to John Barilone and the "Techies" for all of the research and hard work that went into the proposals for the sound and lighting. It will be especially helpful to have more digital equipment and less analog equipment to maintain the high standard that Roland Harrah started back in the ESC days. There are many more demands now for live streaming of video and FaceTime class presentations than there were nine years ago, along with other technological advances that will now be implemented for the excellence that this community has grown to expect. I also really want to thank the BOD for being incredibly supportive of me, as I have on more than one occasion, found myself being an incessant whiner as I have to be the bearer of crummy news to multiple parties and events on the same week. Len and the rest of the BOD pretty much gave me the ability to do whatever needed to be done to help make a difficult situation as good as we could get it, even when it cost a bit to do it. Thank you! It was the right thing to do. Remember, folks, all of this "special-ness" has been out of the BOD's hands, too. They have been just as challenged, if not more so, as I have been this whole time. If all goes according to plan, the Ballroom should be ready to "rock and roll" by September! Thank you all for earning your patience awards through this long grueling flex-time. 16 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2017 Activities Director Corner By Cindy Graves, Activities Director AUGUST 12 Karaoke 20 Amphitheater SEPTEMBER 8 Art Fair 9 Karaoke 17 Amphitheater Grand Finale 22 PAC Radio Show OCTOBER 7 Craft Boutique 14 Garage Sale/Karaoke 18 Tennis Banquet 20-21 PAC Show 28 SC Fashion Show NOVEMBER 11 Veterans Day 12 Karaoke 17 Line Dance Party DECEMBER 1 & 2 Holiday Extravaganza 8 Ballroom Dance Christmas 9 AACC Christmas Dance 12 Holiday Magic Show 21 Wine Club Holiday Formal 31 SC New Years Eve 2017
