22 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | AUGUST 2017 | Every year the Art Group has had a community art project for those who say "I can't even draw a stick figure" to pick up some color and create. This year we have on display, in the hallway to the Art Room, the completed 2017 project. The Fine Art Show that the Art Group held in our Ballroom included a hands on Create a Painting for our residents. Many of you and our guests from eight to 80, picked up a paint brush and created the Vincent Van Gough, Starry Night project. Stop by and see our finished artwork. Another masterpiece by our community. Calling all artists: This coming January we are trying something new in the Lodge Art Gallery. We are having a themed show, entitled "Animals!" Do you live in Four Seasons and have an original piece of art work created by you with an animal theme or an animal in it or on it? It may be jewelry, a photograph, carving, painting, or any mixed media. More information and sign-up sheets will be in the Art Room in August. Residents Of Four Seasons 2017 Collective Art Project My earliest canvases were rolls of butcher paper spread across the kitchen floor of my grandmother's house in Cooks, Michigan. She babysat me while my parents taught school. Grandma wasn't comfortable taking care of a five year old, so she gave me paper and some crayons to keep me occupied. I crawled on the floor drawing mural after mural all of which seem to have been lost to history or the trash. Somewhere along the line, I graduated to typewriter paper when I started drawing horses. I didn't draw anything else until I took high school art classes. There, I was asked to illustrate a lot of things in pencil or pen and ink because I did realism so well. When I went off to college, thankfully I had a wonderful painting teacher who taught me the correct way to develop a painting so that it came together cohesively. I have transferred these basic rules for painting into my new work in fiber art and quilting; my new passions. Thank you, Mr. O.K. Harry of Riverside City College. You were the best art teacher ever. The experience level shown here is from one first semester student to the rest of us with several semesters. We are like a family and enjoy encouraging each other.
