Yiddish Culture Club
The Yiddish Culture Club invites one and all to cool off and put
aside the summer doldrums while enjoying a live performance at An
Evening of Broadway Theater on Wed., Aug. 9, in the Main Clubhouse
Ballroom at 7 pm. This video of a live Broadway stage performance
by Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones in Driving Miss Daisy,
remains pertinent today because of its content as it explores racism
against blacks and anti-Semitism in the South. Based on the original
off-Broadway production written by Alfred Uhry, the impeccable
performances of Miss Lansbury as Miss Daisy, an aging Jewish
southern school teacher and James Earl Jones as Hoke, her driver
and helper, the story defines Daisy and her point of view through a
network of relationships and emotions by focusing on her home life,
synagogue, friends, family, fears, and concerns over a 25 year period
as American society is undergoing radical changes. At the same time
Hoke has been affected by the troubled times and the involvement
of Dr. Martin Luther King in the lives of black Southerners. Because
we too lived through these times, this performance should place
us in the Broadway theater with the actors where we may enjoy or
remember those years through our own experiences. Coffee and
cake will accompany the video. No reservations necessary. There
will be a $3 charge to non-members but no charge to members. For
more information, contact Diane at 769-0130. Hope you will join us
for this fascinating performance.
