tennis Welcome to autumn – a great time for playing tennis in cooler temperatures! We welcome you to come out to the courts for some exercise. We enjoyed a nice evening at the fall quarterly meeting and pizza party. None of the club members that participated went home hungry from the event that is paid for by the annual dues. October events include the monthly mixer on Oct. 6, with good tennis fun and plenty of breakfast snacks to keep everyone going, and tentatively an Oktoberfest party on Oct. 9, if there is enough interest. The big tennis event for the month is the member/guest tournament scheduled for Oct. 13. The club is looking for a coordinator for this event to get an early start to ensure it is a big success. Due to many conflicts and a large number of probable players not being available, the tennis club's annual men's and women's doubles championships is postponed until November. The new dates have not yet been confirmed, but the format will be to have the first two rounds completed the week prior so that the weekend will be no more than the semifinal and final rounds (we're looking for a volunteer to run the tournament). Both our men's and women's USTA teams are playing league matches each Saturday or Sunday. Although potentially subject to change, the men are scheduled to play at home again on Oct. 20, at 10 am. The women's team is scheduled to play home matches on Oct. 7 and 27, at 10 am. Come out and support them as they take on mostly younger opponents in this open league format.
