Chef 's Corner Easy Hula Pie By Randy Balt COMMUNITY NEWS In celebration of October as National Dessert Month, I will be using my newest dessert recipe. This is an ice cream pie that is soooo good it's naughty! The recipe is a short cut version of Duke's Hula Pie. I originally was served this dessert at a neighbor's house and fell in love with the taste and simplicity required in making this delicious concoction. After looking it up online to verify the ingredients I made it myself to be sure it tasted as decadent as my first sample. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. FYI: I plan on making the original Duke's recipe in the near future. If it's good, you will hear about it. Course: Dessert • Servings: 6-8 Level of Difficulty: Easy INGREDIENTS 1 Oreo pie crust 1 pint ice cream (vanilla, mocha, coffee, cappuccino) 1 jar (11.75 oz.) Smucker's Hot Fudge Topping 1 tub (8 oz.) Cool Whip DIRECTIONS Spread softened ice cream in pie crust and refreeze. After it refreezes pour slightly warmed chocolate fudge topping over the ice cream, spread it out and refreeze. Remove from freezer, cover with Cool Whip and sprinkle chopped walnuts on top. Return to freezer. Let stand for a few minutes prior to serving. Fitness Center Update The HOA has purchased and installed a mechanical weight hip abduction/ adduction machine. It has been placed next to our hydraulic hip apparatus. The machine uses designated weights to determine the exact force needed to push the pads inwards and outwards. This differs from the hydraulic machine, which uses graduated pressure against the pads. The new machine allows the user to self monitor increases and decreases in ability. The new machine can be used with a "prescription" from a physician or trainer to help rebuild the hip flexor muscles and various hip/thigh issues. The machine has a tower attached that contains complete directions. Please take the time to acquaint yourself with the apparatus before using and enjoy! ~ Reneé E.
