Camera Club We formed almost two years ago and are lucky to have George Johnson, an experienced landscape photographer, as the chairperson of this club. In fact, some of his work was featured in Shutterbug Magazine. We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Craft Room at the Lodge. We have a lot of fun including photo outings, guest speakers, shows of work, field trips, and general sharing of ideas, expertise, and of course, "toys" such as camera accessories, software, etc. This group is for all levels; everyone is welcome. Regardless of expertise level, members are always eager to help and teach. Each month, we have an assignment to take and bring in a photograph of a different genre. For example, our September assignment was to bring in any type of "action" picture 8" x 10" of either color or black and white from your printer or Costco, Walgreen, Wal-Mart, etc. What if you want to attend the meeting but did not take a picture? No problem… bringing the "homework" assignment is not mandatory like it was during our school days; come to the meeting anyhow. What do we mean by "action" picture? It means whatever you want it to mean, i.e. your interpretation of "action," such as a moving vehicle, child, or a leaf on a tree. Often, members bring and share pictures having nothing to do with the assignment because they want to share a special Performing Arts Club (PAC) Our upcoming shows include: Nov. 3: Magic in the movie theater; Nov. 10: A karaoke type show (see below); Dec. 1: Holiday variety show; Dec. 11 A professional couple perform a quick change act with magic; March 2013: Broadway musical medley; April/May 2013: Rhythm and Blues Meets Country; Later in 2013: Reader's theater (see below); We are also working on a possible dinner show. We need you! Do you want to perform? Do you want to help? Please sign up at the front desk if you are interested in being involved in any way or contact Colin Taylor, (951) 956 7378, colin@yorkshire-house.com. We need singers, musicians, comedians, dancers, speakers, actors and entertainers of any kind. We hold our regular meetings at 4 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month in the Conference Room. On Sat., Nov. 10, 6 - 8:30 pm in the Lodge Ballroom, Jerry & Friends will present a, "Kicked up Karaoke Concert, in an RV Rally setting. " Twenty-four "campsites" will be arranged in a broken-wheel configuration, with a "fire pit" in front of the stage, where my singing friends and I will perform for your listening and dancing enjoyment. RHYTHM & BLUES MEETS COUNTRY You may bring your own picnic dinner and adult beverages to suit your taste or you can order your meal from Smitty's. There's plenty of seating for everyone, so bring your friends, neighbors and kin; if you don't have any, bring your enemies. You can dance and carry on, till the night is gone, and we have sung our songs. "Come and have some fun!" We will entertain you with songs from a variety of musical genres, performed by some of my best musically inclined friends. Be sure to check at the Lodge for more information. We need creative people to participate in the Feb. 16, show. We need writers, stage managers and performers. Both R&B and Country music have deep roots in the American past that evoke strong emotions and this show should prove to be dynamic and thoughtful, as well as entertaining. Both genres were heavily influenced by a variety of cultures existing in this country. For example, Afro-Cuban and jazz genres influenced R&B. You can hear Scottish bagpipes running throughout Bluegrass and the Blues and Bluegrass genres influenced Country music. They used the "fiddle" to simulate bagpipes. It is well known that music has been responsible for making the introductions from one culture to another which, in turn, helped to bring cultures together. We are also gathering videos and pictures that depict themes dating from 1950s - ? that will be used as overheads.
