COC Board Members making a difference in Beaumont President's Pen by Sean Balingit For the next few months I will be introducing Chamber Board members to you in this space. This will give readers the opportunity to learn about the people who donate their time to serve as Directors of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. Meet Lynn Elder: Lynn Elder has been a fixture at Childhelp Merv Griffin Village for over 28 years. The Village is a psychiatric, residential facility for abused, neglected and at-risk children ages 6 – 14, both male and female. Lynn has been a child care worker, cottage supervisor, intake coordinator, and volunteer coordinator and is currently the Director of Community Relations. Lynn feels very privileged to work with these children. Lynn loves the "Home Town" feel of Beaumont and feels the city is growing at a well-managed pace and is pleased that it is financially sound. She feels the people in Beaumont are friendly and helpful; the service groups (Rotary, Soroptimist, Kiwanis and others) are very active in this community. "People of Beaumont have a BIG heart for the abused children that reside at the Childhelp Merv Griffin Village. " Lynn was asked by former Chamber Board member, Stacey Love, if she would be interested in serving on the Board. Lynn was already a fixture at Chamber mixers and events and was a great fit to be on the board. Lynn has served as Board Treasurer for many years and her business expertise has been a bonus for the chamber. "There are so many benefits to being a Chamber member: reduced rates for booths at Market Night, the Business Expo each fall, reasonable advertising rates for the chamber's LED sign, recognition of new and renewing members at Good Morning Beaumont and networking with other chamber members throughout the Pass." Lynn also recognizes the importance of having a location available for visitors and potential new residents who come to Beaumont. Average visitors and phone inquires are approximately 400 calls and visitors each month. Lynn's enjoys meeting the vendors and people at all chamber events. She also enjoys working with Interact Club and partnering with the City and Parks Department on many of the events. "Seeing City Council members, the City Manager and Police Chief at Chamber and community events show great community support." Lynn's hobbies include traveling, reading, swimming and hanging out with her daschunds, Red Zeppelin, Princess Sophia, Rocket and Ziggy Pinto. She also enjoys spending time with her granddaughter Hope Mary Lynn. When asked who she would like to have dinner with, past or present, Lynn said Ronald Reagan. "Not necessarily for his politics but for his wisdom and his history as an actor. The Childhelp Founders were personal friends with the Reagan's (Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson were Hollywood actresses) and it was Nancy Reagan that suggested that Sara and Yvonne help save the children of the United States from that unspoken abuse… child abuse. " That is a peek at Lynn Elder. A special thank you to Lynn and all the wonderful people that work so hard for the children at Childhelp. It takes a special heart and Lynn Elder has just that.
