| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2017 | 15 September's Tip: We are changing our meeting times for both the Emergency Preparedness Committee from 5 pm to 9:30 am and the Safety and Preparedness Meeting from 6:30 pm to 10:30 am on the fourth Monday of the month. We hope that changing the times to the morning hours will be more convenient. Both meetings will be held in the Multipurpose (Card) Room at the Lodge. This month has been designated as "National Preparedness Month." Since its inception in 2004, National Preparedness Month is observed each September. Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security, National Preparedness Month encourages Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, schools, and communities. FEMA's Ready Campaign, the correlating public education outreach campaign, disseminates information to help the general public prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. For more information about how you can be better prepared, visit the FEMA sponsored site at: www.ready.gov/. This site will refer you to many resources related to disaster awareness and preparations. The EPC (Emergency Preparedness Committee) continues to prepare Hemet Four Seasons for participation in the "Great Shakeout" exercise, which takes place this year on Thurs., Oct. 19 at 10:19 am. As a reminder, we would like to encourage everyone to visit the website: www.shakeout.gov/california/ for details, information, and suggestions on how you can prepare and participate. Please consider registering to participate! We plan to have several events between now and then to increase our community awareness and involvement, and sharpen our skills. We are planning an Emergency and Preparedness Information Fair on Oct. 7 for our community. This will take place in the Ballroom and feature booths with various organizations and vendors featuring information and items related to safety and preparedness. Look for e-blasts and other communications efforts to advise you of activities you can either participate in or observe. Once again, we encourage you to become involved. This would require only as much, or as little, effort on your part as you are willing to invest. There are no minimums of time, experience or training involved. And, recognizing that this is a Senior Community, there are no real physical requirements — just a willingness to do what you can. We continue to provide training and practical experience exercises to help us all be better prepared at our monthly Safety and Preparedness Meeting at 10:30am at the Lodge — Come join us!
