| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2017 | 5 A Message From Your General Manager By Rick Ruth, CMCA Are you having any problems with rodents (mice, gophers, etc.)? A resident mentioned that he was tackling the problem by setting out traps and noticed his adjoining neighbor had food set out along with bird seed from bird feeders. This is a tough one. At our house, we enjoy watching the many different types of birds use the feeder. We also have a hummingbird feeder. But guess what also showed up? The neighborhood squirrels! The birds must've "tweeted" that there's food at our house! (Pun intended.) With everything we enjoy, there seems to be the downside. So for the one neighbor who is trying to get rid of the rodents, they are going through his yard or traveling along the top of the fence/wall and going right next door to where the food is. The resident is certainly not saying to have his neighbor get rid of their bird feeders, but maybe keeping the residual seed droppings to a minimum would help. I do want to caution residents about leaving dog or cat food out on their patios. This is what attracts the wild animals to come down from the hills. We have bobcats, and I've been told there is a mountain lion that has been seen on the golf course in the early mornings. Also, if you live near the hillside, please keep your small pets inside at night. There are a couple of important legal projects that are soon to be or are currently underway. The first item is the review and approval of the association's Assessment and Collection Policy for 2018. The policy is one of the tools that the association uses to maintain assessments at their current levels. The current policy has also been very effective allowing the Board of Directors to maintain delinquent assessments at a reasonable level. The second item is the annual budget. Several months ago, the Finance Committee began the process of reviewing the data necessary to begin formulating next year's budget. They and the Facilities Committee are also reviewing the reserve study component listing and after their review is completed, any recommendations will be forwarded to the Board for discussion. The Board will be reviewing the finalized draft of the budget and if there are no issues, they will approve the annual budget and policy statement at the October board meeting. There are several mentions of our new patrol company, Southwest Security in this month's Herald and I strongly recommend reading all of the articles. There is a lot of useful information. A couple of final reminders; Obey the posted speed limit, please pick up after your pets, and be considerate of your fellow neighbors! Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Have a peaceful Labor Day!
