| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2017 | 3 By Sandra Moyer FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK FOOD FOR THOUGHT Most of you knew our former GM, Jeremy Wilson. He came to Sun Lakes in 2010 and was here until the beginning of 2017 at which time he was promoted by Associa/PCM. As much as time allowed, he interacted with many of the residents. During Charity Week he and his lovely wife Lisa always looked forward to attending the Friday event and watch the fireworks afterwards. Sadly Lisa passed on Aug. 5, exactly one month after being involved in a horrific auto accident. Her life was cut way too short, for she was only in her mid 30s. I think of all the complaint calls I get, of having to deal with people who try to cheat the system or those who try to bypass our rules and I say "life is too short." None of us knows what tomorrow will bring. Enjoy each day! Enjoy Sun Lakes, its beauty, its people. Be thankful and respectful to those that work so hard to keep your community beautiful. And most importantly, keep Jeremy in your thoughts and prayers. TOWN HALL MEETINGS: The Board held two Town Hall Meetings at the end of July. I want to thank all of you who took time to attend and share your thoughts. Both meetings were well attended and gave the Board a good pulse on how the Community felt regarding the three topics. ID CARDS. Two potential types were presented. The Swipe Card used at our POS stations only (restaurant, lounge, and golf course) at a cost of $5,200. Second, a Radio Activated Card at a cost of $250,000. This would be used at above facilities as well as pools, workout gyms, tennis courts, etc. QUALIFICATIONS TO RUN FOR THE BOARD. Recommendation from District Delegates to add to the By Laws that you must be an Owner/Resident in good standing and 55 years of age. TURF CONVERSION ON CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE. The irrigation lines are over 30 years old and in need of replacement. Though we had rain this past season, we know another drought is coming, and we know the city water rates are going to increase at a minimum of 15 percent each year for the next several years. The Board wants to be proactive so we are looking at converting holes 9 and 10 and the south driving range. Residents can get an idea of how it will look and after a year or two (give time for plants to grow) decide if you want to continue the project. The cost of this first phase will be approximately $902,000. $486,000 is in the reserves to cover the irrigation lines and the remainder $422,000, which covers turf removal, extension of golf cart paths, and adding new drought tolerant plants will be covered from Capital Improvement. We were asked many questions and given suggestions, all of which were noted. The majority were in favor of the Swipe Cards at $5,200, the recommendation from the District Delegates regarding qualifications to run for the Board, and after seeing pictures and hearing the information presented about Turf Reduction, were in favor of first phase. The Board will deliberate and inform you of our final decisions.
