| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2017 | 3 We trust that everyone has enjoyed the "summertime" which allowed visits with family members, and opportunities to travel on vacations to places where you enjoyed relaxing or just taking in the sights. Many of you may have even checked off some items on your "bucket list." Regardless of how you spent your time, no doubt we are all happy to be putting the long spate of triple-digit weather behind us and are ready to embrace cooler weather. So, now we are beginning our fall season and before long, we will be making plans for the upcoming holidays. But, before those holidays are upon us, we have many things going on here in our Four Seasons community this month. The first big event will be the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner to be held in our Ballroom on Oct. 5. This is when your Board has the opportunity to say a very big THANK YOU to all our volunteers who contribute so much of their time, talent and treasures for the enjoyment and benefit of our entire community. The operative word here is "volunteer," so please respect their efforts and remember that their only "paycheck" is this annual dinner held in their honor. They do so very much to make this the enjoyable community it is! Another very important event sponsored by our Emergency Preparedness Committee is taking place on Oct. 7 in our Ballroom. They are hosting an Emergency Preparedness Information Faire that will include representatives from various organizations to help our residents better prepare for significant incidents and disasters. Following that, our community will once again participate in the statewide, annual Great Shakeout disaster exercise. This year, it will take place Oct. 19 at 10:19 am and is designed around a major earthquake on the southern San Andreas fault line. If you need any more motivation to become more informed and prepared, just reflect back on last month's catastrophic 8.1 earthquake that hit Mexico and the all the hurricane devastation that impacted Texas, Louisiana and Florida! The social activities also abound this month. The Ladies Luncheon, billed as the 50 Shades of Fall, takes place Oct. 19 at 11:30 am. Each table will be beautifully adorned and decorated by a volunteer "host" who will create a centerpiece and place settings. Participants will also enjoy a fashion show. This event will be followed by a new event billed as the Fall Marketplace on Oct. 28 which features a variety of opportunities to enjoy bargain shopping, eating, crafts, information about many of our clubs and even some live music. And, the last Music on the Plaza event will be on Oct. 31 featuring country and oldies music performed by The Sundance Band. As you can see, we are truly living up to our advertised description of an active adult community! Last month, your Board of Directors solicited applications from interested persons for consideration of appointment to a vacant seat on the Board. Interviews were held and a person was selected. However, as of this writing, that vote has yet to take place, but the selected person will have been announced at the Board meeting that was held on Sept. 27. So, with the full complement of seven members now seated, the Board can resume its objective of developing a strategic plan for our Four Seasons community. This will be an exhaustive and perhaps lengthy process, but we truly believe it will benefit our entire community as we establish priorities, develop action plans and prepare the road map to achieve desired objectives. So watch for more information about this undertaking in the coming months. Message From the Board of Directors Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board of Directors, Jim H., Ken, Tony, Gene and Jim C., Russ Brown President
