44 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2017 | Happy Cookers Happy Cookers is a club of 137 members who love to cook and love to taste. We get together and talk about food, while we taste the samples that volunteers have prepared according to a monthly theme. We meet at 11 am in the South Clubhouse on the fourth Friday of each month, and new members are welcome anytime. We are dark in November because of Thanksgiving. Our holiday party will be in the Main Clubhouse on Tues., Dec. 5 at 5 pm. Tickets are $10 for members, with a "no-exceptions" deadline of Nov. 15. If space permits, spouses/guests are welcome at $21 pp in a separate check. Place all reservations and checks in a drop box located at Gloria Pena's home, 5096 Breckenridge Ave. Come to a meeting in 2018 and check us out! For membership information, contact Carolyn Wright at 797-3568. Thanksgiving Day is celebrated this month throughout the nation honoring those who came to this country in small ships after surviving hardships at sea. Recognizing these immigrants is a time-honored celebration. Many in genealogy are responsive to these people and enter their names in our family history. It becomes a mark of distinction to also become a member of the Mayflower Society. In our Sun Lakes Club, we have some members who share that membership. Many other organizations exist that honor special ancestry such as the Society of the Cincinnati, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars, and the Jamestowne Society. As we discover those in our family history and document their time here, we become eligible to become members of these societies. Sun Lakes Genealogy Society meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Multipurpose Room at 1 pm. Our November meeting will be held on Wed., Nov. 29 due to the Thanksgiving holiday being on Nov. 23 which is one day after our scheduled meeting. A guest speaker will be presenting an interesting topic. Please join us. Information: (951) 769-4454. Genealogical Society
