60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2017 | Fall is here and with it comes beautiful weather for POP Tennis. We welcome everyone interested in the game to join us. Scheduled days of play are Tues./Thurs./ Fri. from 8 to 10 am. On Sunday, the courts are open to everyone, but many POP Tennis players show up to play on Sunday at 8 am. Some players have been on the courts in the evening, again depending upon court availability. Watch your email for updates and announcements. Come out and try a game under the lights. Playing POP tennis on shorter courts is catching on fast. Playing is easy to learn so just put a paddle in your hand and hit the court. If you previously played tennis, the strokes are similar so you can pick up POP Tennis quickly. In fact, POP can help your tennis game by emphasizing square contact and using angles at the net. It certainly sharpens reaction time. NOTEWORTHY: At the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, they started a POP Tennis class this past spring, and it's been a hit. In late July they hosted the POP Tennis New York Open, one of three national stops for the POP Tennis Pro Series, which included a $10,000 prize fund. This was a highly successful event, with pro players and multi-level amateur divisions participating. More importantly, it was fun for all involved. If you are interested in purchasing a racket, Jeanne McGuire has several brand new ones with covers available. Just give her a call. In addition, stop by and check out our bulletin board that is updated monthly. If you have any questions about POP, please call Jeannie McGuire at 845-8817 or come visit the courts outside the Main Clubhouse. Table Tennis/Ping Pong Good exercise! A fun activity! Great people! That's what you'll find with us. Haven't played since you were a kid? Doesn't matter… we have players of all skill levels. We play Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 to 6 pm, and Sat., 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (normally). See the Events Board across from the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk for more information. You can also check on-line at www.sunlakescc. com and click on "Recreation" then click on "Classes," and finally click on "Table Tennis Group." Laced tennis shoes required — no exceptions! Info., Bruno, 797-0357.
