| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2017 | 69 Friends we will miss Francis (Frank) Pfost 86, passed away August 8, 2017. He was born in Bakersfield to Herbert and Jessie Madden Pfost. At an early age, the family moved to Rosemead where he attended school. His interest in cars started in high school, but that interest was put on hold when he enlisted in the Navy. He served four years during the Korean War. After his time in the service, he married his lovely wife, Sheila and earned his bachelor's degree in police science. They had four children. Frank started his law enforcement career with the LAPD, riding motorcycles. His older brother Earl worked with the Pasadena PD and rode motors and his youngest brother Larry also rode motors with the CHP. Frank earned a Medal of Valor when he pulled a young girl form the Arroyo Seco River saving her life. He moved up the ranks to lieutenant before retiring. He continued to work in other capacities after his retirement form LAPD, but when he turned 62, he retired for good and moved to beautiful Sun Lakes. He enjoyed showing off their new home to all his family and friends. He took pleasure in the social interaction of the many new friends he made in Sun Lakes and being part of the Vintage Car Club, the Men's Golf Club and the Pineapple Jam Ukulele Club. He was very excited when his niece and her husband moved to Sun Lakes in 2015. In the 1950s, he and his brother, Glenn purchased a 1931 Chevy Roadster. Over the years, this car was rebuilt and became the focal point of many milestones in Frank's life. His children, nieces and nephews have fond memories of riding in the rumble seat when they were young. His children all used the roadster when they married to go from the wedding to reception. The roadster transformed over the years, and his final additions in the last year were the wire wheels to get it to look just right! He had a wonderful time showing if off in the many events in Sun Lakes, especially the Fourth of July Parade. As his health declined over the past several years, his love for his wife Sheila and family was very apparent. He was a member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic church and his faith was very comforting during the tough days. In November of 2016, Frank and Sheila moved to an assisted living facility closer to his children. He slipped peacefully from this earth in San Dimas surrounded by his beloved Sheila and children. He is survived by Sheila, his children, Jeannie Scholfield, Jim Pfost, Melinda Dicken and Carrie Wyckoff, sister Maxine Matthews and brothers, Glenn Pfost and Larry Pfost, as well as nine grandchildren. He was laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery with full military honors. Bill Prusa passed away Sept. 4, 2017 in Loma Linda, CA. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Patricia Prusa. Bill leaves three sons: Tom, Jim and Jeff; one daughter Sue; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bill was very active in the Men's Golf Club and was President several times. He loved his volunteering in the Emergency Room at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital for seven years and on the Board of Directors for two years before passing. Bill's service was held at Arlington Mortuary Riverside with military honors.
