FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2017 15 By Cindy Graves Please join us as we honor those who have served in the military — our own "Four Seasons Hometown Heroes." The program begins at 4 pm in the Amphitheater on Saturday, Nov. 11. It will be led by the United States Naval Sea Cadets, Colonel Lewis L. Millett Division. It includes a musical presentation by the Inland Sound Chorus. Refreshments will be served afterward in the Lodge Lobby. All are welcome. In case you are unfamiliar with the Sea Cadets, the USNSCC is a national youth leadership development organization. It promotes interest and skill in naval disciplines while instilling strong moral character and life skills through leadership and education modeled after the Navy's professional development system. It's a fabulous organization and the division joining us will do everything from Posting the Colors to a Rifle Salute. This group of outstanding young Americans will renew your hope in our youth. Four Seasons has connections with the Sea Cadets — both with our staff and some residents. FirstService Residential's Kelly Norton, Aly Vancil and Chelsea Vancil have all served in the Sea Cadets. Aly will be playing her Boatswain's pipe during the program. Mark Lassen of Amphitheater Production Group fame, was in the very first Sea Cadet Unit in Great Lakes, Illinois. Martha Baumgarten, Chairman of the Communications Committee as well as her husband Carlos on the Finance Committee, were instructors in the Sea Cadets. As you can see, this organization is a lot like family to the Four Seasons. Here is a special piece of trivia for you about our own Division of Sea Cadets: They are the only unit in the country that performs the Memorial Honor Detail for National Cemeteries. They also offer flight training (F.A.A. Ground School) for qualified Cadets and some of their training is done on Navy Aircraft Carriers or restored tall ships. If you have a military background or want to offer your talents to support a local Sea Cadet Unit, your involvement will have a substantial impact. They are always looking for volunteers.
