60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2017 On Sept. 17, eight members from our pickleball community participated in the OLDlympics in Hemet. The cool and mild weather was a welcome relief after the hot and scorching summer days. Three picklers came back to Beaumont as medaled winners! Julie Stayner earned a gold medal, Richard Carrasco earned a silver medal and Gracy Luna earned a bronze medal. Congratulations! Many of us attended the Board Meeting where the Directors unanimously voted to convert the tennis courts into eight pickleball courts. We are all extremely thankful for their support. Just recently we had 20 players out at the "old courts." The "new courts" will be busy with lots of action. If you are interested in learning how to play this popular sport, skills sessions are on Thursday evening at 6 pm with Jeromee Liebenberg. Court shoes are highly recommended. If you have further questions, please contact Nancy Barnaby at rbarnaby38@verizon.net or (951) 845-0842. Happy pickling! ~ Irma Peterson Pickleball Tennis Club Despite last month's puerile primer prose, I am still writing the articles, until someone steps up and takes this job over. If nobody does that, you get what you deserve. So with some prognostication, here goes: without even a hint of Russian interference, the Tennis Club conducted its biennial committee, non-partisan election at our annual dinner and membership meeting in October. International observers were on the look-out for hanging chads and fraudulent voters, and, as of press time, did not report any material discrepancies. Exit polls indicated that most incumbents were leading in the vote tally, but the results will not be available for reporting in the Breeze until the next edition. Try to hold your breath for the exciting final election returns, but when you start to pass out, go ahead and inhale a couple of times, or you won't ever find out who won. We do know though that Barbara Miller did not choose to seek re-election. We sincerely thank her for her years of service on the Committee, during which she was instrumental in planning, budgeting, and implementing our various luncheons and special events, even to the point of cutting out the little tennis ball stickers for our membership badges. For many years she scrupulously handled the responsibilities of our Treasurer, and we are solvent. Job well done, Barb! We are really enjoying the beautiful tennis facilities at The Courts. The amount of play has increased, because of the availability of the four courts, cleverly named court 1, 2, 3, and 4 or 4, 3, 2, and 1, depending on whom you ask. Waiting times and scheduling conflicts have been greatly reduced. Another benefit of having four courts is that we have been approved as a "host club" by the SCTA and the USTA, and we are the first club to enter the Inland Empire and the Coachella Valley league programs. Not to worry, though; this will not result in vast throngs and crowds storming the Four Seasons gates. We're still just a bunch of old folks playing our favorite game, but not much to watch. For the 49th time, I remind you that the monthly Play Days are scheduled for the last Saturday of each month, beginning at 8:30 am at The Courts. With all four courts available, there is very little waiting to get in to a match. Come on out! ~ Steve Hovey OLDlympics participants: LynnRae Dupree, Irma Peterson, Julie Stayner, Gracy Luna, Richard Carrasco, Jesse Aceves, Dave Thomason and Jeromee Liebenberg
