FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2017 59 Bocce Ball Bocce Ball is played on new courts at The Summit. Play is 9 am Tuesdays, 3 pm Wednesdays and 3 pm Fridays. Hours will remain constant until the days are too warm. Many players and new residents come to play. Everyone, including guests and family, are welcome. Play is now on beautiful tournament grade smooth accurate courts and sideboards. A small step-in makes it easy to enter. Smooth concrete surrounds the courts. All players are learning accurate and careful throws. The game is easy to learn and we mix and match players, so no team is expert. We also change numbers on a team so no one is left out. Bocce Ball is played several times a week at the Summit. Times change based on weather. Many groups play at various times. Call The Summit desk (951) 769-6444 and ask the attendant for current times of play. The game of Bocce Ball requires no specific skills or previous experience. You will get a little exercise and enjoy a beautiful view and breezes at the Summit, all while having a great time with a great group of people. If you are interested in learning the game, please join us at the Summit. Call for times. If you are interested in playing we will be happy to meet with you about 15 minutes before the game to go over the rules and let you have a little pre-game practice. If you would like to schedule your first practice session or if you have any questions, please call any of the contacts: Mike Saperstein: (951) 769-7909; Larry Anderson: (951) 846-3123; Jeannine Baker: (951) 797-0833. ~ Mike Saperstein Morning starts at 9 am are cool. Shade is good on courts. Hours all winter and spring are Saturdays 9 am. Sundays 12 noon. Mondays 9 am. We often use a dust mop and spray to add ease and speed to disks. One game had four ends play and zero points. Defense skills are sometimes very good. Beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs are the setting for shuffleboard play! Great game, fun, exercise with friends, all a few steps south of RCN Building at the Lodge. Equipment is now stored in the old tennis locker next to two of the old tennis courts. Ask for the key at the front desk. Everyone is welcome and learning. Who goes first? Which color disks go? How to strategize to block, kill other team's points, and score for your own team. Players use a cue (cue-stick), to push their colored disks down the court. The scoring diagram is divided by lines, into six scoring zones, with the following values: 10, 8, 8, 7, 7, 10-off. You hope not to land on 10-off. All are welcome. Come join in the fun and learn. A few weeks ago, 100-point game took just nine minutes. Often a 100-point game can take 40 minutes. Players have learned defense. One player earned the nickname "The Terminator." Each time we play, we draw for "random mix" teams. For more information call Mike Saperstein at (951) 769-7909, or Larry Anderson at (951) 846- 3123. ~ Mike Saperstein Shuffleboard Two cool morning games in November, players watch as other end is throwing Collecting balls on a November afternoon .
