Ilene Kaplan slipped peacefully away in her sleep on September 30, 2017 at age 88. Ilene had been cared for in the Valley Health Care
Center, San Bernardino, Ca for the six months prior to her death. For the year before that, she resided in The Lakes, Banning Ca. From 2000-
2016 she owned a home in the Sun Lakes Country Club community in Banning, Ca. She was born to Ben and Clarice Kaplan on March 1, 1929
in Los Angeles, Ca, and lived in Westwood for most of her childhood before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Ilene served in the Army from 8/15/49
until 12/1/52. Upon release, she spent the remainder of her career as an x-ray technician. For much of her life, Ilene was caregiver to first
her younger sister, Marilyn and later to her older sister, Shirley Kabert. Congregation Shalom Bayit, the Reform Jewish Temple in Banning,
was grateful to have her as a long-time member. During the many years of her membership, she served as Fundraising Chairperson, adding
much needed dollars to their treasury. She was active in the Jewish War Veterans, for which she collected canceled stamps from friends and
neighbors to donate to the Veteran's Hospital for use in rehabilitation of Vets. Ilene participated in many organizations within Sun Lakes
including annual Craft Fairs. She was extremely interested in genealogy and has traced many of her relatives to their arrival in the United
States. Ilene regularly supported many charitable organizations throughout her life. She leaves behind her friend from childhood to present,
Carol Lois Sherman, as well as her long-time friend, Hannah Riceberg.
