Tournaments: The 2018 Fall Solera
Diamond Valley Pickleball Club Men's
and Women's Tournaments were held on
two beautiful fall weekends in October. Both proved to be exciting
challenges, with lively action fueled by donuts and generous servings
of laughter and words of encouragement.
There were eight players in the women's tournament. At the end
of the action, Mary Ellen Brogdon and Kendyl Edwards were tied for
the first and second places. The tie was broken by the number of
wins, and Mary Ellen was crowned the champion, with Kendyl as the
second runner-up. The third runner-up was Janet Davis, a relative
newcomer to the sport for whom this was the first entry into a Solera
pickleball tournament!
There were nine participants in the men's tournament, with many
good, close games. After Game eight the scores were fairly even and it
became clear that the final game was going to determine the outcome.
After a nail-biting game with Irving Waldo and Louis Cherpin against
Chuck Orrico and Larry McGary they were tied 10-10. Winning the
last point was Irving and Louis, giving Irving enough points to be
named the winner and champion of the Men's Tournament.
Second and third place were tied. The tie breaker of number of
wins went to Greg Krebs with five wins and Chuck Orrico came in
third with four wins. A fun time was had by all!
New Board: The new volunteer Board was named for 2018. They
are: Mike Grasso - President, Mabel Durand - Vice-President, Greg
Krebs - Treasurer, and Mary Ellen Brogdon - Secretary.
Christmas Party: SDV Pickleball Club Christmas party will be
held on December 6 from 5 to 8 pm in the Lodge Ballroom. This year
we will have an Italian Christmas dinner catered by a local Italian
