Okay… on your marks… get set… GO! Can you believe it!? We're off and running into another brand new year! It seems like only yesterday that we crossed the century line from the 20th into the 21st century. Do you remember all the media hype and concerns about Y2K? There was so much worry and fretting over what might happen when we transitioned from 1999 into 2000. Computers might crash, our communications systems might fail, clocks would quit working, navigations systems might be disrupted, etc. That New Year was full of anxious anticipation of the unknown. But, everything turned out fine and all our worries were allayed. We sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed the holiday season and that you availed yourselves of all the wonderful activities. We are so blessed to have all the folks who volunteered their time to plan, organize and put on these events. The Lodge decorations really helped get us into the spirit. The holiday home tours enabled us to enjoy the creativity of our neighbors. The parade of beautifully decorated golf carts provided a chance to spread good cheer throughout our community. And the New Year's Eve party was an astounding event to remember! So now here we are… it's 2018 already. Many of us like to avail ourselves of the new year by making resolutions. Most likely we prefer to look at the calendar as a "clean slate" upon which we can craft positive changes we seek to achieve. At this stage of our lives, a lot of us probably resolve to lose some of the excess weight we most likely acquired over the holidays. Additionally, we may plan to undertake some physical fitness activity so we can try to keep up with our grandchildren. Or we may start planning what "stuff " we will be purging in the Spring. Regardless of what resolutions you may (or may not) make, the beginning of a new year affords us all an opportunity to reflect on our lives and values. We all have a chance to paint upon this clean canvas if we so choose. The well known country music artist Brad Paisley summed it up by saying, "Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one." Just as we may have been anxious about Y2K and how it would impact us, we likewise may have some trepidation about what lies ahead in 2018. As we move through our lives, many things are thrown our way. Some things we gratefully embrace, and others we may disparage. But what shows our true character is how we deal with them. As renowned American writer Melody Beattie put it, "The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals." Your Board of Directors is currently engaged in this process. During the latter months of 2017, we committed ourselves to developing a five year strategic plan for our Four Seasons HOA. We believe it is critically important to identify both short and long term goals for our community. Establishing these goals will help determine priorities and essentially will serve as a "road map" to our community's future. After all, if you don't know where you are going, you'll never know when you get there. We are currently engaged in developing our Board Mission and Vision Statements. We also anticipate that part of the strategic planning process will include community-wide input, so watch for more information and details over the coming months. So go forth and boldly embrace the coming year with enthusiasm and confidence. Heed the advice of Benjamin Franklin when he said, "Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better person." | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2018 | 3 Message From the Board of Directors On behalf of your Board of Directors, Jim Hatcher, Ken Pounders, Tony Criscenti, Gene Hikel, Jim Crase, and Greg Rockvam, We sincerely wish you all a very happy new year!
