26 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2018 | From the President – Tom Moore: Welcome to 2018! We made it through another fun-filled year of golf and I can't wait for the new season to begin. First, I want to give a huge thank you to Ron Leatherman and his board for a successful 2017 golf season! Next, please allow me to introduce your 2018 Board of Directors: Officers: Tom Moore, President; Ron Hulme, Vice President; Vivian Ceballos, Treasurer; Chaz McManis, Secretary; and Ron Leatherman, Immediate Past President. Appointees Elliot Yeager, Membership Chair; Tom Johnson, Rules Chair; Bonnie Moore, Social Chair; Melody Lewis, Handicap Chair; Addis "Scotty" Scott, Tournament Chair and Gary Sopata, Golf Course Liaison. This is a fantastic group of hard-working people, and we're going to do our best to ensure that everyone enjoys themselves as much as possible. The results of the member's survey we did back in November were mixed: There were 21 "A" flight responses, 17 "B" flight responses, 13 "C" flight responses and 25 "D" flight responses, for a total of 72 responses. 31% joined the club because they want to socialize, and 25% because they want to compete. 48% Already play most Tuesdays, and 28% don't play more often due to personal commitments. 19% want more individual competition, and 19% want more team games (interesting). 18% want more computer-generated teams, and 12% want to pick their partners. 87% feel that a club Marshall program would help to speed up play. 38% want to play different courses quarterly, and 36% want to stay at Hemet GC. 45% of flight "A" players want to play from the "combo" tees and 35% want to play from the "blue" tees. 68% of the ladies do not want an exclusive "L" flight. I will continue polling the membership from time to time, and I plan to have a "suggestion box" available every Tuesday for your ideas. On behalf of the board, I want to thank you for trusting us to work in the best interest of the Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club, and for allowing us the opportunity to serve you. Here are the results of the SCGA Championship Golf Tournament played in Palm Springs on Dec. 4: Gerry Edmonds finished 35th in the "low gross" division (out of over 60 golfers), and Debbie James came in 10th in the "low net" division (out of 46). Way to go you two! Thanks again, and "Hit 'em straight." From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: You may sign up at our prior Tuesday golf event, or contact the Tournament Committee by email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com. Our January 2018 Game Schedule is: Jan. 2, 8 am: 4- Person Team: Best Net Score PLUS Worst Net Score Jan. 9, 8 am: Individual: Throw Out Worst Net Hole Jan 16, 8 am: 2 Person Team: Best Net Scores Jan. 23, 8 am: Partners-Same Flight: Total Net Score Jan. 30, 8 am: (T) – Low Net / Low Gross – Post as Tournament From the Membership Chair – Elliot Yaeger: I will continue to serve as membership chair during 2018 and look forward to continuing the good friendships our golf club inspires. Invite your neighbors and friends to join our club so they can also share in fun golf and experience all the camaraderie. Four Seasons Golf Club welcomes our latest new members to the club: Bill Barnes, Donald Sopp, Vernon Paine, Patt Gililland and Irene Becker. Membership renewal by SCGA has changed their policy to be one year from date of joining or renewing. If you have not renewed for your Dec. 31 anniversary date you may still do so, with just a change in your anniversary date. Membership is $66, which includes SCGA membership as well as Four Seasons Golf Club membership. Pick up your membership application from the Four Seasons Lodge Reception Desk. If you are a new member and have five scorecards, submit them with your application and you will receive an established handicap from SCGA. For more information contact Elliot Yaeger, Membership Chairman, at (951) 223-3735 or email at hemet4sgc@gmail.com From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: Steve Wallace advised the club that some areas of ground under repair will be marked with white lines. Be sure that you avoid walking or driving a cart through these areas. If your ball lands in one of these areas designated as ground under repair, you have free relief. The nearest point of relief is a point just outside the area under repair which allows room for stance and intended swing, and is no closer to the hole. From the nearest point of relief you can go up to one club length, no closer to the hole. Once you have determined the point of relief, mark it with a tee and drop your ball from shoulder height. If the ball does not stay near the tee, drop it a second time. If the ball does not stay near the tee a second time, place the ball near the tee. There are many areas on the course which should be marked but are not marked. If members of a foursome agree that the area should be considered ground under repair or abnormal ground conditions, the same relief as stated above should be followed. Holes from burrowing animals received similar treatment to ground under repair. It is important not to take advantage of this relief beyond that provided in the rules. This process will be modified under the new rules which have been proposed and will take effect Jan 1, 2019, if finalized in 2018. During the course of 2018, I plan to cover each of proposed rules. The club is considering some information sessions during 2018 to prepare for the new rules in 2019. From the Handicap Chair – Melody Lewis: Please post ALL golf rounds played. Posting all scores is the only way to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. You don't have to play 18 holes to post. You can play 9 holes and post a 9-hole score. However, if you play at least 7 holes but no more than 12 you also must post a 9-hole score. If you play at least 13 holes you must post an 18-hole score. The Rules of Golf provide a way to determine your "most likely score" on holes that are not played. If a player does not finish or play a hole they may record par plus any handicap strokes they would normally receive on that particular hole. This "most likely score" must be preceded by an X on the score card and the score cannot exceed the players ESC limit. So, remember to post all scores whenever you play.
