52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2018 Billiards for Fun As promised, we are announcing the winners of the November in- house Billiards for Fun tournament and we even have photos to prove it! First place winners are: Mike Olsen and Carlos Rivera. Second place winners are: Richard Dipoma and Mike Corbett. Kudos to our amazing winners. It was a battle heroically played! Our next in-house tournament will be Feb. 6, followed by the tournament against the Curly Cues on Feb. 12. Since the Curly Cues are sponsoring this event, it remains to be seen if the BFFG guys will be given a handicap. Stay tuned on that one. All in all, this has been a great year for the Billiards for Fun Group. We welcomed several new members: Tracy Laykoff, Jim Kelly and Ernest Marable. They are all really good players, and so far have easily integrated into the group. We hope to have more people show an interest in the Billiards for Fun Group and join us in 2018! If you are interested in finding out more about this great group of really nice people, come by the Billiards Room any Tuesday from 11 to 1 or 1 to 3 (we have two sessions of two hours each). There is also informal practice open to the community on Saturdays in the same time slots. Feel free to come check us out! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine The in-house 8-Ball tournament this month was remarkable to watch and participate in. During the third round of regular play, two games against our top players were raging. Kenny Payne versus Larry Rice, two of our best, were battling it out on one table. Leo Babin and Dewey Allen, two equally talented players, were playing on another. Kenny and Leo respectively won those games and were pitted against each other. The win by Leo shot him into the final matches undefeated; while Kenny dropped down into the lower bracket. Kenny then had to eliminate Dewey Allen to jump back up to face Leo for the second time the same day. In game one of the final match Kenny prevailed setting the stage for the final game with both Leo and Kenny tied at one loss each. A long back and forth battle was fought with Kenny having several stymied attempts at the 8-Ball. Leo finally achieved a run-out advantage running the last four of his balls and dropping the 8 to conquer the tournament for this month. Way to go Leo! There is a finite number of players in any club, so we will quite often have "repeat offenders." Kenny ripped it up during regular play at the 9-Ball tournament just like he did during 8-Ball this month. Brian Andersen meanwhile got knocked into the loser's bracket in the third round only to best three players there to once again this month land himself into the final match. Kenny Payne won this one but Brian played well enough to compete two months in a row with the best of the club. Congratulations to Leo Babin in 8-Ball and Kenny Payne in 9-Ball, the monthly champions, to round out our fun year of in-house competition. Speaking of rounding out the year, let's reflect upon and acknowledge the over-all winner for the year for in-house tournaments. As of this writing Larry Rice has won six of the 11 8-Ball Tournaments and three of the 11 9-Ball Tournaments.
