48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2018 Happy New Year! Our first book selection for 2018 is Sunnyside by Glen David Gold. The main character of this book is Charlie Chaplin, the beloved actor known as the Little Tramp. In 1916, after an extraordinary mass delusion where Chaplin is spotted in more than eight hundred places at once, he finds that his inspiration for his next project is at a low, even though his fame is at its peak. He is struggling to find a film worthy of his artistic talent. As he searches, we are introduced to many amazing characters that take us from the battlefields of World War I to the Russian Revolution, from the glamour of Hollywood to the Wild West shows. "The result is a spellbinding novel about dreams, ambition, and the birth of modern America." We will meet to discuss this book on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 9:30 am in the Lodge Conference Room. Everyone is invited, whether or not you have read the book. If you have been thinking about joining the Book Club, come and check us out. We always have lively book discussions and can recommend books we have enjoyed reading. We also welcome suggestions for future reading. The February selection is A Man Called Ove. For more information about the Book Club, please contact Doreen Sanders at (951) 769-1913. ~ Linda Lambeth Book Club Kiwanis Club of Beaumont What happened to 2017? Hope everyone had a great December with all the holidays and parties. In December several members of our club worked with the Winter Wish Program helping deserving families in the community. It was great to see how many Four Seasons residents got involved and supported the program with donations of gifts and food. Good job for everyone involved. January will be a busy month, selling breakfast tickets and ads for our breakfast place mats. The Kiwanis Annual Breakfast will be held on Feb. 10 at the Beaumont Civic Center. The funds from this breakfast will go towards Beaumont High School scholarships and youth programs. Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased from any Kiwanis member or purchased at the door that morning. The breakfast will consist of pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, and coffee (all you can eat) for the low price of $6. If businesses wish to advertise and have their business card on the place mat at the breakfast, a place mat ad can be purchased for $35, and with that purchase you also get six free breakfast tickets. Come out and join us that morning and support the Beaumont Kiwanis Club. The Beaumont Kiwanis Club meets in the Lodge Conference Room every Thursday except for the first Thursday of the month. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Many of the members come early and order at the Bistro and eat prior to the meeting. You do not need to be a resident of Four Seasons to be a Kiwanis member. If you would like to get involved in a community organization, come out and join us. We need new members who want to help our community and the children in our city. For further information, call Buzz Dopf at (909) 208-0880. Hope you have a great New Year! ~ Buzz Dopf We're baaaack! After our hiatus of writing, editing and day-dreaming, the Writer's Club is scheduled to meet on the second Tuesday of every month. The next meeting is Jan. 9 at 1:30 pm at the Lodge. Meetings generally last about an hour and half in a room that will be assigned on that date. Check with the reception desk to see where we will be meeting. Here's a brief highlight of what some of our members accomplished over the summer: • A second editing of a sci-fi thriller in anticipation of publishing • Work on the sequel of a novel that a member published last year • Graphic design accepted for a novel soon to be published • Introduction of a new member who has published two books Before last year, none of the listed accomplishments existed! The Writer's Club is a group of people who write. That's all. If you write, doodle, have a bucket list that includes publication or are just interested if you'll fit in, I assure you that you will. Inspiration originates from surprising sources! The Writer's Club members are inspired and excited to meet again! Come join us! ~ Karla Noonan Writer's Club
