62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2018 Ping Pong Fun, Fitness, Friendship. Improvements are in progress for The Courts facility. As with any new construction, actual daily use provides identification of items needing correction or refinement. The first item could be corrected with effective window tinting. The east and west facing windows allow for intense and uncomfortable glare, as well as solar penetration, despite light shades and drapes. The glare actually poses a health and safety concern for age 55+ eyes attempting to focus on fast-moving, spinning ping pong balls. There are also concerns for significant energy costs for cooling. Apparently there have been similar concerns from residents using the fitness room as well. Representatives from the Ping Pong Club shared these concerns with the Facilities Committee at their November meeting. The request for window tinting was accepted by the committee and it will move forward. The next step in the process will be for the Committee to acquire cost estimates and then present a proposal to the Finance Committee. The request will finally be brought before the Board of Directors for approval. The Ping Pong Club held a mixed doubles tournament and dinner to celebrate the success of our CA CRV recycling program on Dec. 9. Players could be seen actively practicing for the competition. Trivia questions of the month: Why does the sport of table tennis now use 40mm balls? What color(s) and materials are regulation balls? Why is the choice of rubber on the paddle blade key to your style of play? (Answers to these frequently asked questions will appear in next month's article!) See you at the tables! ~ Sandra Butler- Roberts Fishing Club As I am writing this article, it is raining. In my last article, I stated that we were not going to get much rain this winter. Go figure! Hopefully, the rain will stop and we can get out and do some fishing. In this article I want to write a little about trout fishing and how to put these babies on your stringer. Most people want to know where to fish around Beaumont. I will talk about two places and where I go to catch fish. The first place I like to go fishing is Yucaipa Regional Park. Yucaipa Regional is the closest place to our home to go fishing. It is stocked with trout every winter and the fishing there is pretty good. There are three lakes located at Yucaipa Regional Park. I have found that the top lake is the best lake to fish. For some reason they always stock the top lake and it has more fish in it than the other lakes. For the fishing gear, always use as light a line as possible. Four pound test line is a really good line to use for trout. Put a number 16 treble hook and a quarter ounce sliding weight on your line. For bait, I use Berkley Power bait. The best Berkley Power bait is rainbow color. Cast out as far as you can and get ready to catch some fish. If you want to use lures, then go to the pink color trout magnet. You can find all the equipment you need at our local Walmart. The other lake I like to fish is Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet. I rent a boat on Wednesday because that is senior day and you can get the boat at half price. Start fishing near the dock and work your way around the lake until you find the fish. Try fishing one spot for fifteen minutes and if you don't get a bite, move to another spot. Use the same equipment that you would use at Yucaipa Regional and you should be just fine. Please note that Diamond Valley has several types of fish. If the trout are not hitting on a certain day, try catching some bluegill or stripers. Tight lines to all my friends and remember some days you don't catch fish and other days can be epic. The more you go fishing the better chance you have of getting into that epic day. ~ Richard Carrasco Lian, Don, Lois, Bruce, Bernie, Donna having a fun time practicing for tournament
