30 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2018 |
Yiddish Culture Club
The Yiddish Culture Club meeting is Wed., Feb. 14, at 7 pm in
the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We will feature an Ophir-winning
film (Israeli Oscar) for 2016. Sand Storm, like its name, will give
us a look at a lifestyle not well known in the world outside the
Southern Israeli Desert Bedouin community. The film depicts a
Bedouin family on the brink of changing traditions. As the film
opens Jalila, the mother of the family, is hosting her husband's
marriage to a second, much younger wife while trying to conceal
the insult that boils inside her. Daughter Layla, preoccupied with
a different matter, a secret, strictly forbidden love affair, believes
there are no limits to the world surrounding her. Each character
must make her own decisions. As the story unfolds… well, come
and view Sand Storm nominated for the U.S. Academy Award Best
Foreign Language Film of 2016 and Winner of the Sundance Film
Festival Grand Jury Award for 2016. Everyone is welcome. There is
no charge for members; guest charge is $3. Coffee and cake will be
served. Hope to see you all there for this most unusual film.
