58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2018 | This month we are continuing the feature called "Meet the Players." Each month will feature one of the regular players. This month you will be introduced to Vasu Devaraj. Vasudevan Devaraj (Vasu) is 61 years old hailing from India and has been a resident of Sun Lakes for eight years. Many will remember the day about five years ago when he became a citizen of the United States and showed off his certificate with pride. Some will recognize him when playing ping pong and chess. Many days you can also find him in the Main Clubhouse library wearing earphones and using his computer. For the last six years he has been enjoying playing POP tennis during the morning and additionally in the evenings where the competition is fierce. He describes POP tennis as the best outdoor activity and keeps him fit. He gets all his exercise from the game. Previously he jogged, but after playing POP tennis, he did not see the need to jog any longer as POP tennis provided him with plenty of activity. A faithful player, you will always find Vasu on the court whether the weather is very cold or very hot. Over the past six years he has improved his game, including technique and sportsmanship. He contributes his improvement by attending free clinics offered by Pat and Michael Carter and Tracy Galongo. More experienced players are always willing to help those interested in learning to play or improve their game. We welcome everyone interested in the game to join us. Scheduled days of play are Tues./Thurs./Fri. from 8 to 10 am. On Sunday, the courts are open to everyone, but many POP Tennis players show up to play on Sunday at 8 am. If you have any questions about POP, please call Jeannie McGuire at 845-8817 or come visit the courts outside the Main Clubhouse. Table Tennis/Ping Pong Good exercise! A fun activity! Great people! That's what you'll find with us. Haven't played since you were a kid? Doesn't matter… we have players of all skill levels. We play Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 to 6 pm, and Sat., 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (normally).
