46 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2018 Billiards for Fun It's a new year, and the Billiards for Fun members are already looking forward to the two February tournaments on Tuesday, Feb. 6 – BFFG in-house tournament and Monday, Feb. 12 – Curly Cues tournament. If you are thinking about joining BFFG, now's the time! In order to play in the in-house tournaments you must be a member and must have played at least three Tuesday sessions in the prior three months. Same goes for the tournament against the Curly Cues (our third). Hey, BFFG members… remember, the Curly Cues won the first two tournaments. Okay, well, the BFFG members did have handicaps, so that could account for the wins; but the Curly Cues only have two plus years experience! The Curly Cues members have certainly stepped up their individual games, so this tournament should be very interesting. As of the writing of this article, the new Curly Cues leaders have not specified if there will be handicaps imposed on the BFFG members. The Curly Cues aren't scared, though. They just want a third win. Maybe? We have members at all levels of play, and we usually play partnerships which rotate from table to table. So, if any of you readers out there are thinking of joining a really fun group of billiards players, c'mon over to the Lodge any Tuesday at the 11 am session or the 1 pm session and show us what you've got! We just like to have to fun, so please don't think we're pros. (Okay, some members are pretty darn close!) Hope you come join us soon. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine The 8 Ball in-house tournament was a pretty good match as a field of 13 players squared off for an evening of competition. Larry Rice, our obvious premier player, stormed the field undefeated again this tournament before running headlong into Dewey Allen, our longtime expert, in the finals. Game one Dewey broke the rack but failed to sink a ball on the break. Larry potted five balls but missed on his sixth. Dewey then stepped up and sank two of his striped balls but gave advantage back to Larry. That's how it played out. Back and forth it went for seven lead changes until Larry Rice finally sank the 8 ball for the win. Great game gentlemen and congratulations to Larry Rice the winner! The 9 Ball competition saw eight players turn out for a run at the gold ring. Roland Harrah (that's me) was blessed to lead the troop into the final matches undefeated. But lo and behold who pokes his head up out of the loser's bracket? It's Larry Rice (surprise) coming after me for the kill. I think I gave a good account of myself but 9 Ball is funny that way. No matter who makes most or all of the other balls, the only thing that wins the game is dropping that 9. Larry did just that, so once again Larry Rice gets his name in lights. Good job Larry!
