Well, in last month's Board Message we talked about 2018 being like a 365 page book, and that each day represents a blank page upon which we can write our story. We urged you to consider country music star, Brad Paisley's advice to "make it a good one." How many of us made resolutions to become a better person in some way? How many of us are still on track with those goals? Yes, it is certainly easy to set lofty goals for ourselves, but it's not equally easy to attain them. It takes commitment, tenacity, effort and often a good deal of patience too. As we have learned through our life experiences, very few things of value are achieved without some effort. One thing that can really help us pursue our goals is the support of good friends. It is all too easy to become discouraged and lose our incentive when we encounter obstacles along the way. So having the support of good friends (and family too) can provide the motivational boost to persevere. Believing that your goals are worthy of your efforts is also critically important to fulfilling them. As we mentioned last month, a major Board of Directors goal is the development of a strategic plan for our HOA. And, soon we will be asking for the support of our friends. We are nearing the completion of the first phase of this by establishing our Mission and Values Statements. This process required each Board member to independently submit his values, as well as what he believes should be the mission of the Board of Directors. These were subsequently collated by an ad hoc committee of Board members and facilitated by our First Service Residential Division Manager, Tad Creasy. The resulting document will then be finalized and adopted by the full Board of Directors. Once this step has been completed, it will serve as the foundation of our strategic plan for the community. As we move into that phase of the process, community wide input will be solicited because, after all, each of us is a stake holder in the future of our Four Seasons community. Admittedly, this is a lofty and somewhat daunting goal, but one which we believe is necessary. Our former Board President, Hal Townend, left us a "litmus test" as part of his legacy, and it has served us well as we consider tasks and projects. Hal would simply ask the question, "Is there value added?" We believe the answer in this case is a resounding "yes." We also would like to remind you that we are rapidly approaching our Annual Board meeting which will take place in April. As you know, this is the time when we hold our election for Board members. Each Board position is a two-year term, and this year the terms of incumbent Board members Tony Criscenti, Ken Pounders, Gene Hikel and Greg Rockvam will expire. Thus, there will be a total of four seats up for election. Any homeowner in good standing is eligible to submit a candidacy application and more information on this will be forthcoming. So, if you have a desire to assume a leadership role as we shape the future of our Four Seasons community, please give serious consideration to applying. At times you may find it a challenging undertaking, but it's also a rewarding experience. As was stated by renowned artist Pablo Picasso, "Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not." | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | FEBRUARY 2018 | 3 Message From the Board of Directors On behalf of your Board of Directors, Jim Hatcher, Ken Pounders, Tony Criscenti, Gene Hikel, Jim Crase, and Greg Rockvam, Russ Brown President
