36 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2018 | Happy St. Patrick's Day! And for those of you who celebrate St. Joseph's Day! I wish you a happy one. St. Joseph's Day was always celebrated in my home while growing up. In honor of my dad Joseph, who is no longer with us, I still acknowledge that day in his honor. I am so excited to tell you about the guest speaker at our next meeting and support group which will be on Thurs., March 15 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. It is Dale K. Bethel, an attorney from Redlands. Mr. Bethel has a Juris Doctorate degree from Western State University of Law, Fullerton, California. He spent his undergraduate schooling at the University of Oregon, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Political Science. His topic is what I am most excited about. Medi-Cal Planning and how to apply for it. Having cared for my parents for five years, I know how IMPORTANT Medi-Cal is. Without the help of Medi-Cal my mother could not have afforded to remain in her home while my father was in a nursing home. Nursing homes are not cheap. Medi- Cal is California's Medicaid program. It is a public health insurance program which provides healthcare services for those who qualify; low income adults, families with children, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, children in foster care and SENIORS. That's you! For 25 years, Bethel Law has represented hundreds of clients seeking nursing home payment and those who qualify for In Home Supportive Services. The process includes the actual qualification for Medi-Cal; the legal re-arrangement of the estate assets to qualify (such as through a Special Needs Trust); and the avoidance of what is commonly called a Medi-Cal recovery claim by the state of California for benefits. Don't miss this guest speaker! Don't forget we entertain your loved ones while you are at the meeting. We have live entertainment in the Arts and Craft Room for them. If you have any questions and would like to learn more about Memory Loss, we have reading material we can loan you. Call Diane, 769-0130 or Anne, 845-8700. Remember, we are here to help.
