FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2018 13 March is the month for high winds and hot air (I think… at least for me it is). It's also the month for the mystifying "Mentalist Show" on Saturday, March 10 at 6:30 pm. If you really want tickets, be sure to be put on the waiting list at the Lodge front desk. We always have folks who can't make it for some reason and are looking to sell their tickets. You also don't want to miss the historic Four Seasons Ribbon Cutting and Bridge Opening Parade on Thursday, March 15 at 11 am. This is going to be one hilarious parade! We have the Four Seasons Motorcycle Club leading the parade, followed by the Four Seasons 4x4 group, followed by the golf-cart people, followed by the bicyclers and tri-cyclers with the dog pack group bringing up the rear. We will have that on film for sure. Come join us and be a part of history in the making. March is also the month for appreciating our incredible volunteers here in the neighborhood who work so tirelessly in all of our various committees (thank you committee members), in our library (thank you Mary Alice and David Chorba), on our Lodge mantel décor (thank you Terry Fears), and in all of our clubs, groups and classes. Our community, as you may know, won "Best 55+ Adult Active Community in Southern California." That credit belongs to a great extent, to our awesome volunteering residents. Be sure you tip your hat to any neighbors you know who are involved with making these investments of time in our community; it's such a labor of love for us all. For those of you who have been thinking about possibly joining the ranks of awesome volunteers, please be sure to come check out some of the opportunities at the Committee Membership Drive on Tuesday, April 10 from 4 to 6 pm. Grab a piece of pizza while you're going from table to table investigating. That will make for a yummy introduction as to what kinds of things our committees do. I hope to see you there, I'm on a diet and I need to be sure that there are enough people to eat the pizza, so we don't have any leftovers… remember, even eating Committee Membership Drive pizza is a community service. Let's all look forward to what will be the best month so far this year… April! See you around the Lodge! Activities Director Corner By Cindy Graves, Activities Director As we all wish to respect our fellow swimmers, being aware of these lap swimming etiquette rules will help to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all. 1. Lap swimmers have priority lane usage during scheduled lap swimming times. 2. Walkers may not share a lane being used for lap swimming during scheduled lap swimming times, for their safety and the safety of others. 3. If swimming alone in a lane, stay on top of the black line, which is the middle of your lane. If there are two swimmers in the lane, it is split into halves and each swimmer swims in one half of the lane, on separate sides of the black line. 4. Always use an empty lane if available. Middle lanes are for faster swimmers. Outside lanes are for slower swimmers and walkers. 5. When entering the pool, enter on the side closest to your lane to minimize crossing lanes in use. 6. When crossing a lane in use, cross behind the swimmer, not in front. Some swimmers make high-speed turns, so be attentive. 7. When joining a lane in use, slowly enter the water and wait on the side until the other swimmer notices that you will be joining. 8. Do not impede lap swimmers by walking or swimming across a lane, and do not lap swim perpendicular to the swimming lanes when they are in use. 9. Use your own gear. Don't "borrow" a piece of swimming equipment that you haven't brought yourself and seems abandoned. It may well be needed by one of your fellow swimmers very soon. 10. If using fins, try not to frog kick. If not in the center of your lane the fin tip could strike a neighboring swimmer. 11. When needing a rest, the walls at the end of the pool are great for a quick break. Stay as far to the side of the lane as possible. If more rest time is required, move to the side walls or exit the pool, keeping the lanes clear for other swimmers. 12. Minimize talking. Smile and be friendly, but don't be too chatty. Remember, serious swimmers don't want to be bothered with questions while in the middle of a workout. Lap Swimming Etiquette
