24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2018 Happy spring to all Four Seasons residents. With the beginning of the new growing season, there are some outdoor chores that all avid gardeners need to take care of. Leaf litter and dead plant material should be removed. It not only provides a hiding place for snails, slugs and insect pests, but can also hinder new shoots of spring flowering bulbs. Be careful when trimming dormant plants. Even though some limbs may appear to be dead, that may not be the case. Some plants may take longer to come to life. Temperature, length of daylight, or amount of sun received can affect when a plant springs to life again. Always monitor water usage. People do more harm to plants by over watering than under watering. If it rains, turn off your irrigation. It is easy to do. Save Water / Save Money Every homeowner should periodically check the pop-up drains in their front lawns. If it hasn't rained recently, but there is standing water around the drain, it could signal there is a problem. The reason for the water could mean you are over watering in the rear of your property. It could also mean you have a leak in your irrigation system. This excess water does create a problem for the front yards that are maintained by the HOA. It can kill plants and trees by drowning them. It also creates a problem for the landscapers mowing the lawns. The mowers can cut deep ruts into the turf, detracting from the appearance of the lawn. The Landscape Committee tries to monitor these issues when we do our weekly walks through the neighborhoods the HOA maintains. If anyone sees an issue with any landscape problem or water issue, please contact First Service Management or fill out a Landscape Service Request form available at the front desk. The Landscape Committee appreciates all help to maintain our beautiful community. The committee meets the third Tuesday of the month at 1 pm in the RCN Conference Room. All homeowners are welcome to attend. ~ Ken Marquet Landscape Committee
