54 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2018 On Jan. 13 our Four Seasons pickleball family had its first round robin tournament. All of the players had to battle the "Blowmont winds" but all still managed to have a fabulous time. There were 37 players who played in the men's or women's division. After a four-way tie for the most points earned in the women's group, a playoff game was needed to determine first and second winners. Kellie Boggs took first place and Julie Stayner took second place. In the men's division, Richard Carrasco took first place and Perry White took second place. In the women's and men's mixed division, there were 32 players. There were some very exciting games. The winning team in this event was Marty Key and Bernie Albanese. A BIG thank you goes out to Jesse Aceves and LynnRae Dupree who organized our round robin event. All of their hard work was greatly appreciated. The new pickleball courts are "open" for play during The Lodge hours. If a group of players want to play for a specific reason (ie. practicing a specific skill, drills, practicing for an upcoming tournament), the players will place a RESERVE sign at their court. Fortunately, we now have other courts to go and play our popular game. New players to pickleball are encouraged to come out on Tuesday at 9 am or on Thursday at 4 pm to learn the basic skills of pickleball. Court shoes are HIGHLY recommended. Happy pickling! ~ Irma Peterson Pickleball Paddle Tennis My name is Kellie Boggs. My husband John and I are one year new to Four Seasons and while checking out all of the fun activities, we were drawn to a "pop" sound on one of the courts at the Lodge. That's where we discovered paddle tennis or pop tennis as it's also known. Since we both play racquet sports, paddle tennis was an easy conversion. With the smaller courts and many great and welcoming players, we were able to start enjoying this fast-paced, high action game immediately. We have really enjoyed the camaraderie and getting to know the other players and their spouses at potlucks, parties and mini tournaments. If you're looking for a new challenge or a way to meet people, or just want to blast 400-500 calories without hitting the gym for the whole day, come out and join us! Just follow the sound of the "pop." ~ Kellie Boggs Kellie and John Boggs at Venice Beach enjoying Paddle Tennis Winners: Marty Key & Bernie Albanese mixed group Julie Stayner (2nd place) & Kellie Boggs (1st place) women's Richard Carrasco (1st place) & Perry White (2nd place) men's Jan. 13 Round Robin Players LynnRae Dupree and Jesse Aceves event organizers
