6 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | MARCH 2018
By Berkie Harris, Resident
One hundred and forty SDV residents packed the Ballroom on
Saturday night January 20 for a rocking vintage oldies party with the
Satinettes, Southern California's premier girl group tribute trio. The
Satinettes are composed of Jonnie Fox on lead vocals, Crystal Portillo
and Donna Jones. Together they performed memorable hits from the
50s and 60s like Bobby's Girl, Navy Blue and Be My Baby. An added
treat was Roy Orbison (aka John Burnham) who played guitar and
actually sounded like Roy Orbison. Not to mention the Roy Orbison
pompadour wig that made him look like the iconic singer (well, sort
of - LOL!) When not performing, John ran the sound system.
During the first part of the show most residents sat in awe of
how good the Satinettes were, not only with vocal harmony but
choreography accentuated by their vintage black and white polka dot
costumes. After a little coaxing from Jonnie, however, the dancing
began. Then you couldn't get anyone to sit down. As the evening
ended and the Lodge emptied out I heard many comments from
residents as to how much they enjoyed the show. The Satinettes live
in the area and do several different acts (such as a tribute to The
Supremes.) So stay tuned folks. We'll be having this group back.
