FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2018 45 Volunteering can keep you happy and healthy: Have you ever gone to an event you really enjoyed and thought, "Wow, I have some great ideas that could make this event even better? It would be fun to become a part of a team that can produce events like this!" Working on a committee is much more than just volunteering. It can be a source of personal and professional growth; you can make new friends, learn new skills, meet new people, or just feel good about yourself. Being part of a committee can provide a way to reduce sickness and stress because purposeful activities like coordinating events, helping others or doing things you love, along with good conversation actually helps produce a "health promoting" chemical that boosts the immune system. Research has proven that social isolation is one of the leading causes of depression in seniors. Loneliness can easily turn to feelings of worthlessness and despair. Interactions and conversations play a very important role in controlling negative thoughts, thereby ensuring mental well-being. The AACC is best known for putting on fabulous Christmas Galas, and we are actively recruiting enthusiastic committee members to work on this year's team. If this seems like too much, we have a few smaller events like the International Festival on April 21 and the Juneteenth Celebration that need your assistance. Create more fun in your life by joining a club that is striving to make a difference in our community. We meet the first Monday of the month in the Lodge Card Room at 6 pm.
