FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2018 7 Candidates for the Board of Directors By Laurie Larson Four residents are running for four seats on the HOA Board. Incumbents Claudeen Diaz and Len Tavernetti are running for the re-election. John Noonan and Edward Paules are running for what will be their first terms. Tuesday, April 17 (and April 18 if necessary) is the Board of Directors Election Day from 9 am to 5 pm. The Annual Meeting will be at 1 pm on Thursday, April 19. Profiles of the Board candidates begin below: CLAUDEEN DIAZ Chief Financial Officer Claudeen Diaz had an overarching goal when she ran for her first term: to improve the responsiveness of the Board to the members of the community. She thinks that responsiveness is better because communication between the Board and the residents has greatly improved, but she is still concerned that some homeowners think that there are things being kept secret. She wants to be sure that everyone knows that "the only things discussed in the closed sessions of the Board relate to lawsuits, employees and delinquencies. Other items are brought to open session. There is nothing secret." Diaz sees Transition — the process through which K. Hovnanian hands total responsibility for Four Seasons JOHN NOONAN John Noonan is excited to be a candidate for the Board of Directors. He sees the impending transition - when K. Hovnanian turns total control of Four Seasons Beaumont over to the HOA - as the most important issue facing the Board and the community today. He has been through a transition before, one which was not planned or executed well, and he wants to use his knowledge and know-how to ensure a good experience for this community. "I don't ever want to see something like that again," he says, referring to the transition at the HOA where he and his wife Karla used to live. "The Board must follow the specific plan that K. Hovnanian has filed with the city of Beaumont," he explained. "Otherwise the HOA could be held responsible EDWARD PAULES Ed Paules is running for a position on the Board of Directors out of a sense of patriotism - a loyalty to the needs of Four Seasons Beaumont. "My first response when the idea was presented to me was 'no.' But I have been involved in the community in a number of ways since my wife and I moved here late in 2015, and when I saw that an important unmet need existed, I changed my mind." He believes that his involvement in the community gives him perspective on its needs, and the best approaches to address those needs. Paules spent one year on the Architectural Review Committee during which time he helped write several LEN TAVERNETTI Board President Len Tavernetti wants community members to know that "we're in pretty good shape." Running for a second term, Tavernetti expresses pleasure with the work the Board has done to help ensure a financially healthy and well-run community. "We have a good reserve account, there are good people in management and on the committees, and our housing prices are favorable." Good communication is key, he believes. But regardless of improvements that have been made by the Board in the past two years, he says, "there is never enough. People want to hear everything." To that end, Tavernetti has overseen a significant web upgrade and the institution of the Daily Report, an online Profiles continued on following pages
