24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2018 Our March meeting focused on the crosswalk project and its impact on traffic speed, particularly on Four Seasons Circle. More cars are slowing at the crosswalks to check for pedestrians. We encourage all residents to be aware when approaching the crosswalks and mindful of the 30 MPH speed limit within our community. Remember that walking is the number one activity for most residents, and a large number are walking their dogs, so safely crossing the road is essential. It may be necessary to install additional signage in the middle of the crosswalks drawing attention to the fact that state law requires traffic to yield to pedestrians. The Emergency 911 Phone has been installed at The Courts. Other topics discussed were training for the AED machines and an alert system for those using the sauna who may overstay the recommended time and need assistance. It was also noted that a lot of trash has collected in the water basins in the conservation areas next to the trails. If you would like to attend the next meeting to raise any safety concerns please join us at 10 am at The Courts on the first Tuesday in April. ~ Geoffrey Wilson Safety Committee This committee is making good progress in meeting its objective to carefully plan the HOA takeover from K. Hovnanian which is anticipated to occur within the next two years. The committee heard the preliminary Lodge parking lot capacity study results, the progress on a dog park installation and a study of amphitheater modifications. Formulation of a Four Season's HOA master plan will begin. We welcome homeowners' interest. Our meetings are at 9 am on the fourth Thursday of the month in the RCN Conference Room. Please come visit us. ~ Johanna Ballard Community Planning & Transition Committee Most of us, especially plant lovers, have experienced landscaping challenges of Beaumont. Extreme heat during summer, freezing temperatures in the winter, the omnipresent wind, less than ideal soil conditions, land contour, and pockets of microclimates in Four Seasons are all stressors on the vegetation that we so carefully plant. These challenges are also faced in the large HOA-maintained areas throughout our community. So, how are the plants selected for these areas? Initially, landscaping choices are made by the builder and its landscape consultants and approved by the city of Beaumont. Some original choices have proven successful, while others have not. The Landscape Committee works with our three landscape contractors to enhance and improve on these original choices. In some instances, original landscaping provided by KHOV is supplemented with additional plant material. Plant choices that have proven unsuccessful, for a variety of reasons, may be replaced with options that have proven more successful in other areas of our community. In choosing these plants, committee members consider landscape continuity within a specific area of Four Seasons, additional interest in flower or leaf color, size and shape of the plant, purchase costs, long-term maintenance costs, and drought tolerance. For many of us, the beauty of the landscaping at Four Seasons was a large factor in our decision to purchase a home in this community. From the manicured front yards of the cost center homes to the more natural trail areas, members of the Landscape Committee make regular checks during our group walks and during walks by individual members in specific areas to assure that things continue to meet our high "Four Seasons nice" expectation. While every choice may not suit the particular landscape tastes of every homeowner, we continually strive to assure that both existing and new residents will continue to have a beautiful community in which they can take pride. Group walks happen every Friday morning-join us some time! ~ Steve Stoecklein Landscape Committee
