Come join the fun. ~ Tracey Laykoff Fishing Club When I was a young man I use to fish at least twice a week or more. My main goal was to go out and catch the biggest fish and always get the limit. When people told me they liked to fish because it was relaxing and enjoyable to be with their good friends I thought that was crazy. When people caught one or two fish they would tell me that was more than enough for them. I always believed that the main reason to go fishing was to catch fish and plenty of them. Now that I am a little older my ideas on fishing has changed. I no longer want to get up before the sun comes up and go fishing. I want to sleep and enjoy my warm bed as long as possible before I go fishing. I want to take as many of my friends with me as possible so that I can enjoy their conversations while we are fishing. When I go fishing out of town I want to stay at a four star hotel and enjoy all the comforts of home. I refuse to fish in the rain or snow. Bad weather keeps me at home safe and sound. Don't get me wrong I still love to catch fish. The difference now is that I go fishing to relax and enjoy my good friends that go with me to experience the joys of fishing. When I see kids fishing and catching fish I get excited and happy for them. I know that when they grow up they will remember the great times they had fishing when they were young. Believe it or not, fishing does have its rewards. I went to Lake Wolford with my friend Dennis Boozer and we caught a three and a half pound catfish. For the month of February, we caught the whopper of the month. We got a free boat rental and a free one-day pass to fish. I wasn't expecting to get anything, so that was a wonderful surprise. The old saying that life is short is very true, especially when you are in your golden years. It is a good time to enjoy life to its fullest and go and catch a few fish. Tight lines to all my friends and remember to give some of the fish that you catch to your friends or neighbors. It is always better to give than to receive. ~ Richard Carrasco Niles Sundstrom (right) and doubles partner Agus proudly wear their new medals Ted Troia and Lou Steiner, newest members of fishing club, trying their luck for trout at local lake
