SHOCKING! EXCURSION SIGN-UPS: All new excursions are not released for sign-up until the FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH BEGINNING AT 8 AM. If the 1st falls on a Saturday or Sunday then sign-ups will begin on the following Monday. If a holiday falls on the first day of the month, sign-ups will begin the next day. WAITING LIST POLICY: The waiting list is created by the Rec. Dept. for sold out events/excursions. This list is used (in order of registration) when the attendee has to cancel due to illness, doctor's appointment, etc. The waiting list is not used for additional sign-ups for secondary excursions that are scheduled due to their popularity. All Recreation Classes, Excursions and Special Events are open to residents only, unless otherwise specified. Tour San Diego By Land and By Sea Thurs., June 28, 7:30 am – Approx. 5 pm, $65 pp. Splash into San Diego's most unique sightseeing adventure! Both tour bus and boat, the San Diego Seal Tour journeys through San Diego by sea and land. The unique hydra-terra amphibious vehicles are Coast Guard approved, ensuring you a safe, one of a kind experience. Your fully narrated tour will depart from San Diego's Seaport Village and will tour the historic streets of San Diego before making its way into San Diego's Big Bay. The exciting San Diego Seal Tour takes a fascinating turn and drives straight into the San Diego Bay for the second half of your adventure. Gliding past resident sea lions, a few California Brown Pelicans and several other wildlife species that make the bay their home, the Seal Tour becomes a San Diego Harbor tour - without you ever having left your seat. Once in the water, the Seal takes you on a leisurely cruise where you can witness the magnificence of the water, various San Diego attractions including Point Loma with its beautiful mansions lining the hillside, the North Island Naval Air Station – one of the largest repair facilities for fighter jets, Point Loma Submarine Base, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Marine Mammal Training Center, Shelter Island and much more. Learn about San Diego's interesting Maritime past and present including the tuna industry and the importance of the military in the city. Once you splash into the Big Bay you will glide by Navy ships, tugboats and fishing vessels throughout the harbor as you listen to stories of early sailors. Lunch will be on your own in Seaport Village after your tour, or you may choose to bring your own lunch and beverage (no alcohol) and have lunch on board the Seal during your tour. NOTE: There are no restrooms on the Seal but they are conveniently located next to the check-in booth. You are bound to have a wonderful experience!
