| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2018 | 55 Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays thru Saturdays, except for Thursday which is league play. We normally draw for partners at noon, then play until 2 pm or so. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three-month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four teams at 9am and the other four at 1pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of friendly one-on-one competition, come watch us play. For further information, please contact Barry Sorensen 402-4020 (jobear15@sbcglobal.net). If you haven't already signed your team up for the Spring Tournament, you're too late! Entries closed on March 30, play to begin the week of April 9. Due to the bocce courts re-do, the Winter Tournament was only six weeks long, instead of the usual seven weeks. Added to that, the Tuesday divisions had a cold-wet wipe-out! Tough conditions all around! Hopefully the Spring Tournament will fair better. It is only seven weeks long rather than the usual 10 weeks, again due to the work done on the courts. The Tournaments will get back on track beginning with the Summer Tournament, which will be the usual 10 weeks long. On to the PIZZA PARTY: Mark Sun., April 22, on your calendars. That's the date. The time is 3:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. All Friends of Bocce Club members are invited to a FREE Pizza Party complete with all of the trimmings! There is, however, one proviso — you MUST indicate your intention to attend by submitting good faith money, ($3 pp), in an envelope, with name/names on the outside, to 1288 Pleasant Valley, by April 19. We need to know how many members will attend, in order to inform the restaurant. BTW, money collected will be divided between drawings for Restaurant gift certificates and a contribution to Charity Week. Questions… call Dutch at 845-0392. See you on the courts! Friends of Bocce Wheelbarrow Group The Wheelbarrow Group meets Wednesdays at 5 pm (October through March), 6 pm the rest of the year at the North Clubhouse. We have warm up exercises, timed races, tournaments and, of course, pot lucks. Our winners for the March 14 five mile tournament were Delilah and Hedley Lamarr. There was a brief controversy at the finish line as another set of competitors accused them of using performing enhancing drugs, but it turns out they were both just drunk on rum, which is a legal, and often encouraged, substance in the sport of wheelbarrowing. For those of you who don't like to compete and just want to enjoy the fresh air and fun of wheelbarrowing, we have a more casual subgroup called "Wheelbarrowing for Fun" and they meet on Tuesdays at 5 pm. Bikinis/speedos are mandatory uniforms for this group. If you would like to participate, find a partner and join us! ~ Cleavon Little
