| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2018 | 5 At the Feb. 28 Board meeting, the Emergency Preparedness Organization (EPAP) was appointed as a Permanent Standing Committee by the Board. This is an important change for EPAP, which will now report directly to the Master Board. For all EPAP volunteers and leaders in Sun Lakes, this change will provide increased awareness of EPAP and its purpose to promote preparedness for potentially catastrophic emergency situations in Sun Lakes. A new charter for EPAP was also created that defines its operation and authority. At each regular open session Board meeting, EPAP will present a report on its status, activities, and upcoming events. This will help to keep our residents better informed about EPAP's work. Together with this change in status for EPAP, a new system for leadership of the EPAP group has been implemented. EPAP will now be managed by an Executive Team of four members: Linda Stone, Dick Spaulding, Michael Karpman and Joe Formino. This divides up the Executive Management duties among the four, permitting more work to be done and new projects to be undertaken. Some examples are: • Presentation of a comprehensive training program for EPAP Companion District personnel last fall. • Expanded EPAP presence on the Sun Lakes website now includes extensive information for most EPAP volunteers, and on-line training materials. As EPAP continues to develop, more information will be available on the website. Take a look at www.sunlakescc.com • EPAP now has a dedicated cell phone that can be used to notify EPAP of a possible catastrophic event. At all times, one member of the Executive Team will be in possession of the phone. The number is (951) 524-3126. Please remember, this phone number is only for reporting catastrophic events of concern to the Sun Lakes community. If there is a personal or family emergency, always call 911. • EPAP now has a new updated 2018 Manual for its "Emergency Preparedness Action Plan." This will be introduced in the next few months to new homeowners. It will also be available for download on the EPAP website. EPAP looks forward to providing increased support for our many District volunteers, and increased awareness of Sun Lakes residents to the importance of being prepared for emergency situations. To accomplish this, EPAP needs more volunteers who are willing to help with the Program. We are in need of medical and security personnel, as well as radio operators and organizers. Our Districts are always in need of Zone Captains, EPAP Coordinators, and alternates. Volunteers can call our Executive Team, or your District Delegate. EPAP ACHIEVES NEW STATUS
