| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2018 | 59 Men's Golf For the Etiquette Tip of the Month, let's discuss where players stand when others are about to play their next shot. Not all players are bothered by where other players stand when they are hitting their shot, but some are and we should be aware of how standing in the wrong place could be a sore point. The teeing area of each hole is defined by the two tee markers which outline the width of the teeing area while the depth of the teeing ground is measured as two club lengths back from the markers. When a player is in the teeing area, other players should not be in there also. They should be outside the teeing area and either behind the player's back or directly perpendicular to the player, commonly known as behind the back or under the hat (under his hat means when a player bends to address his ball, the brim of his hat would shield you from him). You should never stand directly behind the player in his line of play. On the green, when a player is about to putt, you should be out of his putting line, neither behind him nor directly in his line behind the hole. The player's line of play extends from behind him to directly over the hole to the edge of the green. Again, behind his back or under his hat. If you watch the professionals play on television, you can usually see them, especially on the green, move from spot to spot as other players line up their putts. This is so they will be out of the putter's line of sight. Of course there are some players who will always blame you for being in their way no matter where you stand, especially after an errant shot. But if you can limit those instances, it should make for a more enjoyable round. For the month of April we have the Sweepstakes 2 day Tournament. The first day will be a 4-man scramble. The second day will be 2,2,3, Best Ball A,B,C,D format. Come and join us for a great time on the links. We continue to encourage members from last year to renew their memberships. Dues are $70: $34 goes towards Men's Club dues and $36 pays for maintaining your S.C.G.A. / Ghin handicap.
